C Sportcoupe 220cdi Problem - Keeps Sliding

I own a sportcoupe W203 C 220 CDI. I had brand new yokohama V design tyres but the car keeps sliding the back wheels when i try to go drive on a high slope.

It appears the car doens't have enought weight on the back.

In the snow, even where other cars go ok, mine doens't move.

The shock absorvers are ok. I have new tyres now and it still does the same.

Anyone have any ideia of what can be?

Are they winter tires?

And the reason the back slides is of course due to the car being Rear Wheel Drive. As well as you having most likely more low end tourque due to the diesel engine. Do you have an Automatic or a Standard shift one?

Yes it is Rear Wheel Drive and i have automatic shift. I guess it's not a torque problem has when it tries to go on a high slope it starts a burn out (shifts in mode W or S)...

I asked other people to try to drive this car on this kind of slopes and the car does the same.. Burn out and doens't move in front...

It has this problem not only in snow.. in normal ground if it has an high slope..

Can it be a transmission problem? Visible it's everything ok with the car.. suspension, wheels alignment, ...

Tourque is what you need to get the wheels spinning and Horsepower keeps em moving. So yes it is due to tourque. Start in W mode and lightly apply the accelerator. I also asked about tires becuase in the US we get Summer only on our Sport Coupes and they are 225/45/17's! Not worth a crap in the snow. You need dedicated snow tires on these babies if you are driving in snow. I get away with High Performance All Seasons on mine, but I have a second car with All Season's on it and I avoid large hills if I am tackling them from a stop. But with a 16 inch wheel and Winter Tire they do very well. Also these are not a perfect 50/50 weight balance. More of a 54/46!~

Thank you for your answer. I did not understood what torque was.
My wheels are 225/45, 17". I use winter tires. My problem is not the snow, but the high hills when i stop the car and then try to get it driving again... it starts the burn out..

If i use mode W in automatic gear and i hit the accelerate pedal very gently it does the same.. but it takes longer to start the burn out... but as soon as it tries to start moving, it starts burning out...

So.. you think this is normal on this type of car with this type of wheels?

Thank you

is your traction control off? does your esp light blink? it may be an error with the traction control system, and depends how steep a hill we're talking about. i know this happens on my car on an uphill, if there's water, but traction control takes over.

ESP is on and appears to be working ok. When the car starts the burnout esp takes control and the burnout stops.. But then again.. the car stops moving...

If i shutdown ESP then the car starts burnout and doesn't move either..

Did you just get this car or you've had it for a while and this only happened recently, especially after you've changed the tires?

Reason I asked is because it might be your tires, even though they may be new, they might not be compatible with the ESP, etc (so says the Owner's Manual).

How steep is this hill we are talking about? Plus a winter tire that is 245/45/17 is not going to be good in the snow. That is like a snowboard! Low profile tires are crap in the snow. Even if they are snow tires. Most members would get a seperate set of 16 inch wheels with a 205/55/16 on them. Narrow tires=better snow traction. But the 16's may not clear your brakes. If not then I would do 17's with a 205/50/17 or whatever size will keep your speedo in the proper area! With a 245 it is like having a set of ski's back there.

Even in dry roads it slides :-D

You need a winter tires, and it will stil sliding, the CDI engine as alot of torque in low rpms, (I have one too, but never drived it on snow, but even it dry the wheels speen a lot) in snow drive with the auto shift in W, is specifc for winter driving, S is not for sleepery surfaces...

Great engine isn't it?

My problem are the garages entrances.. It seems strange a car that has problems getting of a garage... but then again.. if it's normal, i don't have anything else to complain...

Yes.. great engine ;-)

Trade it in on a 4-matic.

I think they are suited to some people more than others. You would likely appritiate it more.

..

The problem is a lack of weight in the rear. If you were to sit in the rear, and get a Chauffeur, likely all your problems would go away.

My last tires got bald in 10.000kms.. I'm not the kind of high speeds, but they only last 10.000kms... (the rear ones).
