Canada only - block heater
Warming up your car is not necessary. At idle, it takes a long time for everything to warm up. You're better off driving, but just take it easy and don't rev too high while it's cold.
Last time I asked Meray Motors in Oakville, and they said it was pre-wired but not installed as standard, and asked for C$318 + tax. Now MB Mississauga confirmed the block heater IS standard (I believe for all W203, seadn / coupe / AMG). All you need is to install the cable which he quoted C$33.95 + 0.5-0.75 hour labor + tax. So it comes to around C$100-120 after tax. What a difference!
I'm going to install it.
BTW, MB Mississauga offers free cash wash, if they are not busy AND if you ask. I got a nice wash last Saturday while I sipped a hot chocolate.
You may notice new dealerships in GTA has an aisle in the shop to allow you to watch your car being serviced, washed and detailed.
A note: Both Meray and MB Mississauga service people think it is not essential to install the cord if you live in GTA, use synthetic oil, and you car is a garage queen. For those who live in far north, park the car outside, this is highly recommended.
MB Mississauga offers free cash wash
so how many ppl actually want the cord installed?

I received a Part Number...
Q6-20-00-03
It was quoted at ~$60. This is the only picture I could cross reference on the internet...
Any information regarding a Block Heater for a M271 would be great...I am almost up for an oil change, and I would LOVE to install the heater before winter and while I have the car in the air...
Thanks all,
Jake
I can install it - I am sure of it (Unless it had to be done way back before the head went on, or the soft plugs went in...But if I can fit it...I will)
I am sure mine does not have it...I have been under my car every 5,000 miles and I do not recall this - although I never really "looked" for it...
I am providing some images - maybe you can point to it!
Thank you,
Jake
I have no heater plug...Once again Mercedes-Benz Marketing Team did not do their home work...I know Canada is north 40 minutes away...But it still gets really cold here in Buffalo during winter...and we do get snow...
Oh well...Looks like I'll have to do it!
Thanks,
Jake
In order to install it, I will need to pull the manifold, cat, and a few other things...I will do that when I HAVE to...
What do people think of this - I know TONS of people here in the north east that use it - you splice it into the LOWER radiator hose...to backed feed warmth into the block...
I figure with [REST] - I can go out to the car 1/2 before it needs to leave - hit [REST] and let it start to pump the warm coolant through the block to pre-heat the engine?
Ideas, Thoughts?
Thanks,
Jake

I called my dealer here in Ottawa and he confirmed that most cars that came out in '02 have the block heater installed and only need the cord to connect it to the outlet. However, he said that to b absolutely sure, the only way is to physically look in the engine bay for the block heater,
So, for those who have experience with this issue, where exactly is the block heater located? I'm at work right now, so Ive attached the only picture I have here of my engine..and suggestion int he general location of the block and tips on what to look for are welcome.
