I read my MY2001 manual and notice there is a block heater on Canadian W203. Anyone knows where it is located?

I have a block heater in my C. This option was offered, not from MB Germany, but from my dealer, who installed it for me before delivery. I don't think the C-class comes factory equipped with a block heater, but I migth be wrong here. In case you have an electric block heater, there should be an electrical socket mounted in front of your car (normally under the bumper on the passenger side). I think the brand of my block heater is Defa (but I'm not sure here either).
Anyway, it works well and I used it everyday last winter, resulting in smooth starts, instant hot air blowing from the fan etc. I believe it also reduces the excessive engine wear wich might result from extreme cold starts. They (the dealer) also mounted a auxilliry 220V socket inside the car, meant to be used for an extra heater.

Makes me feel so much better knowing that there are other cold places in the world besides Canada.

Canada only - Yes, it is standard!!!
I ask MB Canada, and YES, Canadian MY2001 C-Class comes with an electric block heater as standard. It is located besides the fan pulley. All you need is to install an electric cord. Now I can warm up my engine before I start in cold winter. Very good.
I also read from an earlier post that Canadian C-Class rear bumper is reinforced with a beam to comply with Federal law to withstand a 8kmh hit. US models don't come with this (the law was repealed) and explains why the repair cost is so prohibitive when rear-ended (trunk hood need replaced).

Cord
So how much does the cord cost?
Please let me know; even though I live on Vancouver Island (Canada's Mediterranean paradise
) I thought a block heater might be good for the odd ski trip in the Kootenays or Rockies or for the rarewinter cold snap.

I stand corrected
Just got a call from dealer and he said the W203 is pre-wired to install a block heater. But it doesn't come as standard. The cost of the heater plus 1.5 hour labour is C$318 plus tax.

My block heater cord was included in the PDI but was on back order when the car arrived. The dealer installed it during the first inspection at no charge.

I am now still confused.
Is the block heater included in Canada with the C240 or not. OK, there is a cord to obtain, but is it included?
Looks like we still have a misunderstanding.

Mine is a C230 Coupe and the block heater was installed at the factory but the cord was either unavailable at build time or it is a dealer installed item. My dealer was very vague on this point.

Yes, now that the cold weather is here, there still is lots of confusion. The block heater is indeed in my 2002 C230 Coupe, but the dealer still wants $318 for the cord.
Does anyone else have much the same experience or is there an alternate cord that can be obtained? It almost seems that the factory knew it would be much easier to install the block heater up front, but they also want to try and get some money back for it down line.
Very confusing.
If someone has any ideas please help!

Re: Block Heater Confusion
Fashion your own cord !!!
I can't really see it being that much of a difficult job. WOn't look nice and flush but hey It's a temporary solution anyway - only for a few months out of 12.
Now I am curious. I'll go look up that heater. It can be really cold here in Northern Virginia you know
.
It would help a great deal if some one can tell me what it look like.
Thanks

I pulled out the torch light and searched for the dam thing – could not find a plug! Need some help – how long do you leave it on? In addition, does it consume a lot of power (electrical), also once you start using the block heater can you get off it – do you see any real fuel economy numbers? my poor 2002 c240...
Ops…too many questions

Antonio: the block heater keeps the engine oil warm so it's easier to start and you won't have to let it idle as long before you (decide to) get going
but of course, some people just dont bother to warm up their cars..
