Attn: Canadian owners - the block heater IS there
For MY2001 W203 owners, it is on p.263 of the manual.
Last time I asked Meray Motors in Oakville, and they said it was pre-wired but not installed as standard, and asked for C$318 + tax. Now MB Mississauga confirmed the block heater IS standard (I believe for all W203, seadn / coupe / AMG). All you need is to install the cable which he quoted C$33.95 + 0.5-0.75 hour labor + tax. So it comes to around C$100-120 after tax. What a difference!
I'm going to install it.
BTW, MB Mississauga offers free cash wash, if they are not busy AND if you ask. I got a nice wash last Saturday while I sipped a hot chocolate.

On my '03 coupe, the block heater is on the right side of the engine block under the front branch of the exhaust manifold. There is, of course, no cable, and the outlet (stamped 200 W, 115 V), is closed with a black screw cap.

No. I bought this car at Silver Arrows before this dealership is open, but I try to be nice to all servicemen at Silver Arrows, Meray Motors and now MB Mississauga (5-10 minutes drive). Sales is a one-time event, service is a car-life relationship.
You may notice new dealerships in GTA has an aisle in the shop to allow you to watch your car being serviced, washed and detailed.
A note: Both Meray and MB Mississauga service people think it is not essential to install the cord if you live in GTA, use synthetic oil, and you car is a garage queen. For those who live in far north, park the car outside, this is highly recommended.

Has anyone actually gotten a block heater cord for a 2002 C230 Coupe? If so were you able to get it for under $100? It looks like the only place a block heater is popular is Scandanavia and Canada. Not a surprise really! By the way the heated seats are another super option when it is -15C outside.

Hey, my dealer gave me the cord for free (had an old one lying around), apperantly these cords have not changed in many years. I installed it myself in 60 seconds. Works great.
Oh, ya, I bought the donuts that morning :-)

Does anyone have information regarding newer and American w203 cars with the option to put on a Block Heater?
I received a Part Number...
Q6-20-00-03
It was quoted at ~$60. This is the only picture I could cross reference on the internet...
Any information regarding a Block Heater for a M271 would be great...I am almost up for an oil change, and I would LOVE to install the heater before winter and while I have the car in the air...
Thanks all,
Jake

You must have searched for this thread! Jake, I have a Canadian M271. If you can't see a black screw cap about an inch across, on the side of the engine underneath the exhaust manifold, the block heater isn't installed in your car.

Can you please post a picture?
I can install it - I am sure of it (Unless it had to be done way back before the head went on, or the soft plugs went in...But if I can fit it...I will)
I am sure mine does not have it...I have been under my car every 5,000 miles and I do not recall this - although I never really "looked" for it...
I am providing some images - maybe you can point to it!
Thank you,
Jake

My engine is in the car...those images are reference shots...
I have no heater plug...Once again Mercedes-Benz Marketing Team did not do their home work...I know Canada is north 40 minutes away...But it still gets really cold here in Buffalo during winter...and we do get snow...
Oh well...Looks like I'll have to do it!
Thanks,
Jake

I wish my car came fitted with this...I DO HAVE the "Cold Weather Package" which has heated rear view mirrors, headed washer system, extra CC battery, heated seats, [REST] enabled - and working...but NO BLOCK HEATER!
In order to install it, I will need to pull the manifold, cat, and a few other things...I will do that when I HAVE to...
What do people think of this - I know TONS of people here in the north east that use it - you splice it into the LOWER radiator hose...to backed feed warmth into the block...
I figure with [REST] - I can go out to the car 1/2 before it needs to leave - hit [REST] and let it start to pump the warm coolant through the block to pre-heat the engine?
Ideas, Thoughts?
Thanks,
Jake

Hi all,
I called my dealer here in Ottawa and he confirmed that most cars that came out in '02 have the block heater installed and only need the cord to connect it to the outlet. However, he said that to b absolutely sure, the only way is to physically look in the engine bay for the block heater,
So, for those who have experience with this issue, where exactly is the block heater located? I'm at work right now, so Ive attached the only picture I have here of my engine..and suggestion int he general location of the block and tips on what to look for are welcome.

Thanks guys.
PS: Ignore the red circle in the picture...I put it there to ask questions about another issues on the forum.
