As a mater of fact, I think my ML320 will smoke the 240 (even on the Highway)
Sorry for being an ***. Someone had to say it.
The 240 has a much smother ride..more luxery, but the sport flavour just isn't there.

M111 C230k engine, on a 23c day (roughly 75 fahrenheit) on a dyno, HP loss was 17, 17 HP lost with the stock intercooler. turn on the ac and you lose an additional 3-4 hp. anybody else dyno'd their 1.8 M271? I assume with the higher boost the loss would be greater, and they have not changed the engines in 2005, it's the same engine with the same intercooler, I owned a 2003 c230k and on a very hot day you can REALLY feel the difference.

I don't get all these anti-thread posts. If you don't like a thread, just ignore it.
I just had a C230SS loaner yesterday and it felt slower off the line than my C240. I had to trounce on it to get it to go -- then it was faster, but I've never even done that to my C240 because it has enough pickup to satisfy me. It was also definitely rougher and noisier. So, you know which one *I* prefer.
I did like the feel of the steering wheel on the C230.

2002 C230 Coupe(M111)
In a dyno, the car runs hotter than it does on the street. That's why they have the fans constantly blowing on the radiators. Even if the C230 loses 20HP in a heat wave, its still lighter than the C240, and the C240 is going to loose plenty HP on a hot day as well.
Face it, the C240 is a slug. Stop making excuses and just accept the car for what it is. If it weren't for the "oh *****" factor when you hammer the throttle off the line, and the car lazily mooves off the blocks, I'd say its perfectly acceptable as a commuter car or a true entry level car. But, this thing costs more than the C230 and all you get extra is two lazy cylinders and some fakey fake looking wood(that sadly is real) instead of the aluminum(I prefer the metal).
