Seeing this accident really makes me wonder whether i should order the Rear Side Airbags for my 06 C350. It is no longer a standard (except on the AMG verision) for 2006
Why would MB do something like that? MB has always been known for their safety. Are Rear Bags a liability or something, the same way a Bag is a liability for a kid in the front seat?

Good luck though Fangs. (cool drawing!)
p.s. can i buy your sidemarkers? I'd like them for an experiment.
p.p.s. are the wheels 7J x 16H2 ? I'd bid on them if you're selling them.

Ouch!!! Looks like is was a huge hit. Hope you and your girlfriend are okay. Definately go to a doctor to get checked out. You may feel okay now but later on you'll start getting pains. Good luck with the insurance.
Sent you a PM.

Happy You're OK
The car will be totalled by the Ins Co. and they will take the car. No "parting" out.
If you have any problems, PM me. I am a Philly attorney and will help.

Mercedes-Benz
looks like it performed as designed, very glad you guys came out ok. I test drove the new ML yesterday and spoke to the sales lady about the new rear side airbag option. Apparently a lot of owners came in to get their rear side airbags deactivated with the ML and c-class because its not safe if you have a child back there. I think thats an excuse for cost cutting, but thats just me. It took them 5 years to make the airbags an option on the c-class and ML? FWIW, very few 3-series come with rear side airbag option.

I don't think it is supposed to do that. You generally don't want to move anyone that has been involved in a severe impact. Had your g/f's back been injured in the collision, that seat just falling backwards could have made it worse!
And I STRONGLY agree w/ revstriker's comments! To all of you that want to "throw the book at [the guy that caused the wreck]" and soak him and his ins. co. for all their worth, have you NEVER made a mistake while driving? I certainly have. Mistakes happen. If there is no evidence that he was driving wrecklessly or was impaired, and he accepts responsibility, you should treat him the way you'd want to be treated.

However, they were both very flexible (chassis - wise), and the doors were rather lightly constructed. If my wife tapped her foot on the passenger's footwell, I could feel the movement in the driver's footwell. Not the tapping noise - but actually the movement (deflection) of the driver's footwell.
This observation is actually what led to the purchase of our 1st Benz (with our 1st child on the way, there was no way she was going to transport him in that refashioned beer can).
I still think that the outcome of the incident would have been much different had it been a Benz T-boning an RSX.

To all of you asking for parts from Fangs' car: cut this as once! This is ****ing unethical, don't you understand? If/when he decides to offer the parts for sale, don't you think he would post it here?
Now, as for the door damage and passenger compartment intrusion - this actually looks pretty bad. In fact, it is much worse than any picture with a result of a side impact test that I have seen.
I would inform DaimlerChrysler about this and the collapsed seat.
