Can I install new Sony headunit into 2002 C230K that has factory Bose system??
Does anyone have any experience in this area at all? Any details? I would appreciate it. Thanks!
You can get a much better sounding HU from MB with a CD player, RDS and it's compatible with the DB2 fiber loop so you keep the steering wheel controls and MFD readout. It's called the MB Audio 10 (aka - Becker BE6021), search the forum for more info. It won't play MP3's though but it will operate the MB CD changer.
thanks for the help
Hmmm okay I was thinking that this would be the case...How difficult is it to remove the Bose system? If I sold it to someone else, do I need to remove all the wires and everything along with the HU, speakers and amp?
thanks for the help
I decked it out with about 10k worth of options
As far as the stereo, as Buell said, it's much easier to toss the entire system for something more simple and lose the steering wheel controls. I hardly use mine anyway. I don't think you'll get much for the old Bose system, but it's worth a try.
And if the later is true, then what happens on the screen when you switch it to radio? Does it just say "NO RADIO" ? I did not get the phone option in mine and when I switch it to phone on the steering wheel, the screen says "NO PHONE". I assume the radio does the same thing?

Also, with this Bose system, there is just one big amp right? Where is it located? I've seen the location of the 'sub', is it back there also?

MB uses the D2B protocol in its firber optic system. Only one other car manufacturer uses it, and that manufacturer is not Lexus. Your Bose system won't work in your friends Lexus. If the connection between the headunit and amp is copper and not fiber optic, he might be able to use the amp and speakers with another headunit.
