You'd think after 100 years in business, they would just about know how to make a seal that does not leak, a switch that will work more than three years, and bushings that will last the life of the car. Plating goes back in time 5000 years, yet the chrome still flakes off.

Sounds like all the quality talk is just that.

My driver seats squeeks a bit, and the IR senser to roll down the windows from the passenger side doesn't work. That is all though. It is going to the shop tomorrow.

are you still on warranty, Adam?
I think a new IR sensor (pass. side) is around $80 for the part,
and then they have to program it or something.

I looked into this, last year, when I was trying to get my door handles color matched to the car, and needed a new cover with the little hole for that IR sensor.

Are you sure there is programming? When Steve put on my new door handles I think he just switched it out. He didn't say anything about programming. I have also never looked closely, but does the sensor some out of the cap on the passenger side?

Yep, it is still under warranty. I am not too terribly worried about it. It was broke before my last service, but I was in a hurry that time so I didn't even bother telling them about it. I have plenty pf time tomorrow

I'm not 100% sure on the programming thing. That's something the dealership mentioned when I was inquiring about the part. Reason is that they don't sell the cap without the IR sensor for the Passenger Side. They will sell the cap by itself for the Driver's Side. However, if Steve just swapped out the handles, he could of just easily removed the original sensor and re-attached to the new cap.

What I did, was take it apart, and actually the Passenger Side sensor just clips off identically to the Driver's side, so why they sell one separate and the other combined is probably just a way for MB to make more money.

But yes, the sensor does come out of the cap on the passenger side. I ended up painting my cap with MB Brill.Silver paint and MB clear coat.
Re-attached the sensor flush with the cap, and been happy ever since !

That's a pretty extensive list! I guess I must lucky - have only a had few issues with my 2003 C240 (19k miles so far). Small transmission leak (same as #14 on your list), trunk release doesn't always work - sometimes takes two presses on the remove, and strange odor in the interior when the car is washed or it rains (dealer replaced AC evaporator).

With regard to the trunk release issue (#16 on your list), was this an intermittant problem? I've had the car in a few times, and each time the dealer can't seem to duplicate the problem.

They pulled the seat and re-lubed all the springs and bushings and stuff. That seems to have fixed the squeak. My new IR sensor is oin order and shole be here sometime this week. The dealership took care of me very well! I am pleased!

In short, replacing the evaporator seems to have eliminated almost all of the odor. I've only washed the car a couple of times since I've got it back from the dealer, but it seems that the odor is about 95% gone. The dealer also did a few other things as well, including using some type of cleaning equipment on the whole system and shampooing my interior carpets. Although I'm pretty much satisfied with the end result, I have a bad feeling that the smell will slowly (over about 6- 12 months) get worse and will eventually be back.

After you take your car to your dealer, let me know what they do to resolve it and if it worked!

Hope this helps.

Door seals should be relatively easy. They're almost always clipped it. I would try running my fingers along the edges.
