Closing/opening windows with remote

When I first got my C230 (4 months ago), I could open and close my windows with my remote and now I can't anymore. Has anyone else experienced this? It's not that big of a deal to me, but it was a nice feature to have when it starts raining. I was thinking that maybe the remote battery weakens quickly from doing that.

Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the sensor on the door. This is operated by IR and only works when you are close to the sensor.

You need to point it at the little black square on the door handle. Also hold if for a couple of seconds.

Thanks, I'm on my way out of my office now. I'm sure it's about 130 degrees in there right now, so hopefully it works.

Nope, it should work from either side. Just checked mine to be sure.

I really have a hard time doing it to my car. I dunno, maybe its cuz my windows always need to get re-synced. Hmm. Next time ill point it right at the square. I always wondered where you are suppose to point the remote. LOL. I just learned something. Hehe.

i think it is stupid that we have to point to the infrared thing on the door handle to open all the windows. On my old 328CI there was no need to point anywhere. it was simply holding down the buttom.

I agree. I would prefer that this feature operate through the same RF (radio frequency) transmitter that locks/unlocks the doors, instead of through an IR transmitter. Unnecessary complication, IMO.

BrabusCClass, if one or more of your windows requires constant resyncing, try this. First, resync the offending window. Then, after you stop the car and remove the key, remind yourself to go back to the car 4+ hours later and see if that window has lost its memory (no longer sync-ed).

If this is a repeatable pattern, you have a bad memory chip in a board somewhere (varies by window). I had this problem with my sunroof... auto tilt-close would work after resyncing as long as the car was running... If I left the car sit (key out of ignition) more than 4-hours, it would no longer be in sync.

Of course, it took 4 trips to the dealer to convince them I had this problem, even when I demonstrated it. The key point is that it's not the ability to resync the window at fault, but the system's ability to remember it more than 4-hours. Hope that helps.

Well, no luck for me holding the remote 12 inches from the square on the door handle. Oh well, like I said, I mainly liked it because if it started to rain I could shut them from inside the house before.

You have a warranty. Add this item to your list for your next visit to the dealer.

I would have them check this out on your next visit to your friendly MB tech. But even when it is operating correctly, you probably will not be able to use this from inside the house (unless your car is in there with you ).

The IR is useless if there is high ambient light on a very sunny day. Try it at night or in a closed garage and you will be surprised.

Hi all,

I can unlock my car from my office window, about 140 feet.

You have to be very close to use the window opener/closer, I think this is because they want you close to the car to ensure that the kids have all thier little precious fingers safely inside!

I don't think they want the windows going up from half a block away.

My thoughts..... Smoky

Could be true. It makes sense. 140 feet seems pretty good. I haven't tested it from a distance yet.

But to clarify, lock/unlock uses a radio signal (?) as opposed to IR which is used to remotely open the windows/roof.

I think the reason they used two methods for the controls, IR and radio, is just that reason.

They want you up close to open or close the windows. Unlocking isn't a safety concern, and can be done from a farther distance.

The bridge from the parking lot to the terminal here at the SD airport is open air with a canopy over it. I was standing on the bridge very far from my car was able to see three blinks from my car. Maybe...400ft, I dunno.
