When driving.....
When out driving around, what types of people do you notice looking at your car the most?
Strangely enough, I see what seems to be a majority of people looking at the car driving full size pickups, often Chevys. It could be though that my demographic area, being in the middle of Illinois, also has a lot of pickups on the road. You just wouldn't think that they would notice a small Mercedes coupe.
Oddly enough, other Mercedes drivers rarely look over at me. I sometimes notice an occasional BMW driver checking out the car on the interstate.

We don't have much bus stops in our area
It was funny when I stopped by a high school - everyone looked at me, made me kinda shy
....Hell; Just seeing ANYTHING foreign with four wheels in the heart of Corn and Beanland ( counted pods near Decatur in 1980...NO fun) is unusual. Just as driving a JD combine down Market street in San Francisco would garner plenty of attention.
I drove a Porsche 914/6 through Illinois once in the late 70's, stopped in Pontiac ( They have a very nice correctional facility in the area I hear...)and was mobbed in the McDonalds parking lot...Seems it didn't take much to excite the natives out there. In California, anything less than a Ferrari doesn't incite much attention from the populace.
Enjoy the attention!

LOL That is tooooo funny. You'd be suprised at the amounts of big $$$ in central Illinois farmland. Most farmers have more money than you can shake a stick at.....but they all claim to be "poor"! ( as they start thier $40,000 extended cab Chevy to drive to thier $200,000 machine shed and climb into the $500,000 combine that they will drive out to the 200 acres of land that is worth a cool million ) They just can't be caught dead driving one of "them thar foreign jobbies!"
There are some damn fine cars running around these parts.....you just have to keep your eyes peeled.

Michelle, mabye the reason people always look at your car on the road is because of something you posted in a thread in the OffTopic forum, and not necessarily the car itself, lol

When I drive I don't really ge that many looks. but the ones I do get are usually from adults with that "Is that Kid driving a mercedes?" look on their face. The ladies like it cause they, for the most part, Like Mercedes cars. But for the longest time Mercedes has engraved in peoples minds that a 2 door Benz costs mucho $$$. I mean the SLK is a $40K car the CLK even higher, and do I really need to start with the CL, and the SL. people just dont think that our cars are the price that they are. But , Boy oh Boy, do they look good.

Well, I work in Normal, but live in Decatur.....I haven't seen one other Coupe in Normal, however I am told that there is one Orion one where I work but the lot is so big that we park at opposite ands and never see each other. I have seen three others in Decatur......a silver, a desert silver, and an orion blue.
True, I was just poking a little fun at a good friend of ours who always drives a new truck!!

Ahhh, i remember the good ole days
sortof off topic...but when we first bought our ML320, back in the early late 1998 when there were still very few Mercedes-Benz suvs, and there were no such things as MDX's and BMW X5's there was only the ML class...and my god during the first few months of owning that car, I got more stares and wows and oooohs and ahhhs, from people then i get from my 2001 CLK.
People that seem to notice my car most are ricers and other MB drivers (particulary SLK and CLK drivers), they just can't seem to figure out what it is and what someone under 40 is doing driving it.

Funny thing happened today...
I was driving on a local bypass road, and this woman in a Passat pulls up next to me at a light...starts looking over the car and honking. I was like...yeah, ok, sure, whatever...and pulled away when the light turned green. She hung on my doorsill 'til the next light and started honking again.
I opened the window, and she asked "Where'd you get the custom paint done on your car?"...I did all I could to keep a straight face and tell her it was a factory color. I know Orion Blue is now considered 'common' among us MB people...but I guess the rest of the world hasn't seen it much.

PS: Michelle, having seen you're picture in the off-topic forum, I think you'd be catching looks from boys is their Chevys even if you were tooling around in a 25-year old Datsun 210.
