I got a medium tint on my front windows, no tickets related to that yet. Even though it's less legal, I want to get a light tint on the windshield, the California sun gets too hot sometimes...

The tint place that did my windows changed out the seal so it won't scratch the tint, they have experience with it. Oh, and the tinted the rear windshield darker to match the panoramic sunroof.

The place I went to in So Cal did my windows for $160 and did the moleskin on the inside of the rubber sweepers for $50. No scratches yet.

the problem with tinting only exists with the front side windows right? yes i realize they're the only ones that roll down but there's no problem with anything on the rear windows is there? cause i would only like to tint the 2 rear side windows the back rear hatch window.

So do you need to take doors apart to apply the moleskin or not?

Right, the problem is only with the side windows...
Don't you think that it's gonna look bad with only rear windows tinted?

I don't think you need to take the door apart but you do need to remove the interior door panel as the sweeper is attached to it. Below the rubber part that you can see is a plastic piece that's about a 3/4" wide and runs the length of the window, that's the part that scratches the tint and they put a piece of moleskin (felt) the length of the plastic about 1/2" wide. If you are in So Cal, visit Autovisions in Anaheim, they did a great job.

He is very professional and looks out for the customers best interest. My windows are 5% on the rear window, and 20% on the two back windows.

Where do you live? If you are in the bay area, maybe I can recommend you to him. He is very knowledgeable, and might be able to give you some advice on what to do.

Or else, Good luck!
Where did you get the windows tinted? And for how much? Do they offer lifetime warranty on the job? I also want the back and rear windows tinted only. Thanks.

Hi 20FHK02

The place is called California Sunscreen in San Leandro. Which is about 45 min from you depending on traffic on I880. ( i hate that freeway) The guy's name is Sydney and his phone # is
(510)483-8468. Just call and make an appointment. I think he does tinting for different car dealers through out the bay area too.
And yes, they do offer lifetime warranty. I have lifetime on mine. I've heard that he is the best in the bay area. Oh, and he charged me $150.
Good luck

Thanks a lot J&JC230K! Yes 880 is a mess, so I usually take 280/680 then exit at Mission Blvd to avoid the San Jose traffic. I normally save at least 30 min of time going this route.

I probably have the windows tinted sometime next week (depending on when the ASP pulley arrives) so I'll have real pics ready next week. In the mean time here is a potoshopped version of a back window tinted white coupe.

Was it the tint place on Tustin Ave. off the 91? If so, I probably got it done at the same place...

Okay I have my car tinted today, it's a 3-window tint for $150: 30% on the back small windows and 20% on the rear window. Looks pretty nice Will have pic up tomorrow.

Yeah, I keep the car back home in Villa Park, my parents did the tint while I was at school.

also, those of you who have tinted your C230 (white ones especially!) with a dark tint, no silver or reflective nonsense , please post pics! i want to see what it'll look like.

california tint in tysons does a great job. However, becareful. Tinting of windows has been known to mess up the radio reception and the transponding of the keys to lock or unlock the car.

Question Help with my window tinted

Hi guys! yesterday I was reading some stuff in this page and I found some problems with the window tinted of this car! But i though that i has not happened to me yet, but this morning I realized that there were some littles scratches in both! I do not what to do! i don't want to take them off.

I really need your help to find out a good solution! AHH I also call my MBdealler the guy told me that all the C klass have the same problem and he suggested me to take off my titanium tinted and use one non-metalic! do you think it may work?

i dont' think changing the tint is goign to make any difference...what you wil lhave to do is remove the tint.. have the tint store put some moleskin on the door edges.... this will stop the scratching.....

i would also do a search on the forum on tints to see what people say...

it's basically something soft that the tinters need to put on the area where the glass goes into the door. It is sort of like velvet. if you look at japanese cars etc.. you will see that there is a velvety material near the glass that stops it from being scratched....

If your tinter doesn't know what you are talking about, find another tinter. If they don't know what they are doing you risk them damaging your car. Post what area you are in and see if anyone knows a good tinter in your area. Of course if you go to another tinter your tints may not match in color 100%.

I've seen them do it on mine and the door panels come off and they remove the inner seal between the door panel and glass. They then sand this plastic part that's about 1" thick and glue moleskin to it and put it back together. The plastic is hard and rubs against the window.

tinting windows..?

i was wondering since where i live its illegal to tint the driver side and passenger side windows...and i don;t want to be pulled over for such a dumb reason..

do u think tinting the windows all the rear 30% and then the front like 10% would look decent?

I'm not sure how **** the cops are over where you live, but in SoCal they generally ignore people with front-window tints unless they're pitch black. I have a pretty good tint on my front windows and I haven't had any problems yet. If you are truly restricted with your tint, 10% should be fine (any tint is better than none). As far as I know, a fix-it ticket over here doesn't count towards the cop's quota, so they usually try to pull you over for a traffic violation first (running a red, speeding, etc.). If you have any "aftermarket" stuff on your car, you're bound to get increased attention from the cops.

Also, don't forget if you have a C230k to get the window seals changed so they don't scratch the tint off.
