i would hate that if u can only tint the rear windows. I personally like it when their all tinted. I have 18% tint on my c230 and it looks good i like it dark, although its not legall to have that dark on the fronts in FL i will take the chances.

if i was u if your not doing all the windows i would do it light so its not such of a contrast.

ok wait 35% tint is lighter then 25% am i correct?

i am too tinting very soon but since its illegal to tint the front windows i am thinking of just doing them around 50% -meaning a very light tint..what u guys think would look at least a lil tinted yet no too tinted to attract large attention?

California allows you to have 70% side window tint, hardly noticible so most people that want tinting disobey the law and risk a $10 fix it ticket just like many of us do for not having a front plate. Some people are under the illusion that if they put 35% tint that they won't notice. If they stop you and want to harrass you, yes they'll give you a ticket for any tinting. The 2 tint shops I called say that they get about 5 requests each a year to remove tinting because of a ticket. I don't the think the chances are high enough of getting cited and even if you do, the penalty is too small to worry about.

I have 20% tint and it really looks great but it is dark and at night it's annoying. If I had to do it over again I would get 30% even if it didn't look as good. Also if you have the dark interior then a 30% tint will look pretty close to my 20% tint with the Oyster interior.

Yes. The percentage of tint defines how much light the tint will allow through. 35% tint will allow 35% of the outside light to pass through, while 25% will allow only 25% light transmission, meaning that 25% tint is darker...

The lower the transmission percentage the darker the tint.

Any dealer wanting your business will provide an odd shaped sample of each percentage you are considering. Take the samples home, temporarilly install yourself and form your own opinion.

I don't have tint but the molding does leave streaks on my glass when I open the window...easy to clean off but still a pain in the ***. MB should have a fix for this by now!

I've seen them do it on mine and the door panels come off and they remove the inner seal between the door panel and glass. They then sand this plastic part that's about 1" thick and glue moleskin to it and put it back together. The plastic is hard and rubs against the window.

Buell,
I thought tinting the front windows are illegal in CA? Just checking

I just have moleskin put on my car yesterday!!! Its not an easy material to find, I've searched 3 fabric stores before finding them. Like Buellwinkle said, they have to take out the door panel and and the inner strip, glue the moleskin onto the strip and put everything back on. My scratches are really bad. I changed the tint yesterday and I have yet to find out if the moleskin works (cant open the windows for a couple of days).

I have my tints for almost 2 months now. I didn't add any moleskin or other softer materials. So far no scratch at all, am I just lucky or there will be scratches in the future?

Window tinting the front window is a moving violation, window tinting the front side windows beyond 70% is a fix it ticket. Not having a front license plate is a fix it ticket. Aren't we all just a bunch of criminals. Oh well. There is one easy way out of tickets, at least with the CHP. Contribute $1,800 to their charity fund and they will waive all tickets for life. It's an unwritten policy so don't look for it in the motor vehicles code book. Here's the website and tint away!

yeah they are illegal but very few follow that rule. you usually wont get a ticket for tinited windows unless they are super dark or youve already been pulled over for something else and they wanna just throw on the ticket with everything else. i had my windows tinted on my VW when i first got it. got a ticket about 6 months later. when i went to get it removed the tint place took it off for free and gave me a 20% discount for re-tiniting if i paid up front. i did. anyhow i went thru this 3 times in 2 years before i gave up and left the tint off.

Smile Hmmm

About this moleskin bizness... Sounds good but I think I read from past posts concerning tinting about those scratches, isn't it something about you pull back a certain area?

If you're in LA you should be fine. But if you're in a less populated town the cops will stop you because they have nothing better to do. I have first hand experience here.

I'm curious. Is it really called "moleskin"? Or is it actually called something else in the store?

Well, the store that carries the moleskin has dark green and burgandy left. They sold out of black. If you want, I can buy either color & mail it to you. I bought 2 ft. and its only US$3.

The only thing you have to ask yrself is if you can accept your inner strip to become green or burgandy!! :p

Harris, if you can see this strip then you installed it wrong. It goes underneath the rubber seal that you see, it's not vissible at all.

JeT, yes, $1,800 buys you a license to speed. Of course that only applies to the CHP. Local sherrif's are another story. Most of my tickets in the last 10 years are from sherrifs not CHP. Sherrifs are the ones that hide in bushes with radar guns.

I used the moleskin to wrap around the strip completely. Maybe I'll take some pics and that will explain more clearly. Give me a few more days as I cant open my windows yet because of the new tint.

That might make it too thick and apply too much pressure on the window.

Need a good tint shop in southern california

Hello all!

Just got my new C230K coupe, and after reading about issues with the interior window trim, I need a recommendation for a good tint shop who knows how to do these cars properly.

Orange county area preferred.

Thanks in advance.
