I probably should have ordered via the OEM Parts Direct site b/c it's cheaper and has the same exact interface as the Eugene dealer's part catalog (same inventory?), but I got excited and didn't check it out till after the fact.
Appreciate the info!! To be continued...

glad to hear that
hope everything will be ok (talking about ordering)
i just came back from the dealer here in fort lauderdale and they do not want to sell me the part because i need it for a S-class, they said they do not sell wrong parts to the vehicle
i guess i will have to go the same way or oem parts direct
hope everything will be ok (talking about ordering)

No key for me!
I just ordered mine from the Eugene dealer. Total was 72.43 including shipping and handling charges. They do ask for your VIN during checkout. Let's see what happens.

"Sorry xxxxx we do not order/ship keys via the internet. Key must be ordered in person from a Mercedes-Benz Dealer. Your credit card will be credited $xx.xx. If you have any questions please call 541-393-5967. Thanks."
It was worth a shot, but I guess it's a no go. I'll call them and see if I can fax them the necessary info they need to verify my ownership, but I doubt it will work because it needs to be ordered in person. Back to the drawing board. Anyone try the OEM Parts Direct site?

Out Of Control!!
Felt like a kid on Christmas morning today - got to my dealership (Prestige in n NJ), and walked out with my shiny new key!
Details:
Key 211-766-36-06 $61.95
Blade 203-766-50-06 $ 4.63
Total with tax: $71.24
Getting outside, and opening up my coupe's hatch with new key: priceless!
I'm still amazed that it was that cheap (parts guy was really amazed too, after initially saying that I couldn't do it), and especially that it works. Much cheaper than the old style w/the third button would have been (glad that I procrastinated), and also always good to throw a little extra blue into my car, even if it's really a blue-green and not smurfy. Yes, they did require that I show proof in person, before anyone asks.
Also cool how the key has a little pop-up eyelet for when you remove the blade - smart for when you drop off the car, and remove the blade to take your other keys with you. Should have had that from the start. Even the mechanism to remove the blade is improved.
Many thanks to all who posted information on this thread. This made my day.

hey robbyt18
sorry to hear that it did not work with mb eugene
try oem parts direct
i went today to mb of miami and tried to order it and they gave in after a while and said they would order it for me under the condition that i would not return it if it doesn't work
they want $81.xx for the remote, $6.xx for the blade and $15 freight and ofcourse tax
i ordered one from there and i also came home and ordered one from oem parts direct where the total with shipping came to $61.41
P.S. oem parts direct is a european car dealer called HAMMER SLEY out of Virginia with two locations in Roanoke and in Lynchburg
this is for anybody that is in the area there
it will probably make their order alot easier
good luck

did you have a succesful order with oem parts direct??
if so you should have received the key already programmed
if not, and you received a blank key, which no dealer will ever do, you just get in the car and put the key in the ignition and you will see in the instrument cluster it will say turn key to pos 1 then wait a while and turn to pos 2 then the key is programmed
good luck

As for this new key....as cool as it is i think it's way too much hassle and expensive! for some people anyway it can cost up to $400. i was thinking of going down to Eugene and picking one up, but after thinking it through it's really not worth the 6 hr drive.

I just ordered the key this afternoon and the order status is still "processing". I'm not sure if it is a successful order or not. What do you think?

I am going to get on the dealers in my area strong tomorrow. I think I will try to do the same thing you did with your Miami dealer. I'll tell them to order it for me. If it doesn't work I won't return it and I'll eat the cost.

this was my last stab at it...
my dealer wasnt able to locate Blade 203-766-50-06, the only thing that came up was Key 211-766-36-06. they assured me it will not be the new key. and they have never heard of the new style key working for anything but the G and S class. they seem pretty convinced that it will not work on my C55. i printed off the invoice someone posted on this thread along with the pictures. i will bring it in when i get my service...
