MY g-friend lost her key for the coupe less than a month after getting the new car.

YES the car has to be programmed for the key. The car can only memorize 2 keys at a time, so one has to be "pushed out" warranttee covers this. SHE also got the 3 button key fob on accident, but were keepin that!.

I just pushed the blank spot as suggested above... IT WORKED!

CAN WE GET REPLACEMENT CASES FOR THE KEYS? i'll just take my guts out and put it in the new fob case.

Like I said before, it depends on whether you are getting a "replacement" key or an "additional" key. It is possible to have up to 8 active keys going at one time on any MB vehicle.

However, there are three different key tracks for the key dependent memories, if you have all of the power options on your car. (seats, steering wheel)

Currently I have 4 active keys going for my car.

Looks very much like those SLR keys you showed me.

I've got the 3-button FOBs for my Coupé. Had them swapped out under warranty about a year ago. The hatch button just unlocks the hatch; doesn't pop it up like the sedan trunk.
I thought about the SLR key, but in the end I really like the new one too.

It's the same style as the "old" style smart key, except that it has chrome on the sides and rear, and that the lock, unlock and trunk buttons are outlined in white.

Oh, and also on the side it says in an etched type of lettering "SLR"

It's cool, but in the end my car isn't an SLR so it's not for me.

Wow that does sound pretty tight, but way too personalized. I bet it'd be cool to have if you had a SLR.

If it's lost they reprogram the car so that if some one finds the old key, it will no longer work. If you are getting a spare key, they will give you one using the same codes as your current keys.

I'll tell you a little secret on how to get a new 3-button key FOB tomorrow at lunch, under warranty for your Coupé. :v

I thought it'd be a lot more exclusive.
But I guess part sharing is a good thing right?

Do any dealers offer discounts? I know on other boards that I frequent we have a list of dealers that offer discounts.

Thanks

I don't think there are any yet, however, that's a really good idea.

I'll try to get on it; see if I can get some dealers to offer discounts.

There have been several mentioned but mostly in CA. Several others have indicated that belonging to the MB club gets them some at stealers. In my case its cheaper to order from a CA stealer with S & H than to buy from mine in town. But he won't budge so he looses.

What are some of the dealers out in CA that you have contacted and gotten discounts/good deals with? Is there anything you tell them to get a discount or do they just provide good prices in general?

Names and contact information would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Lowell

It may even be worth checking for dealers that sell wholesale. I know that one of the parts guys at House of Imports (Buena Park) was in the wholesale business, but don't know if that's still true or not.

HOI - BP used to be into Wholesale Prices, I think his name was Tom, but not sure if he's still there.
Anyway, HOEHN Mercedes in Carlsbad, CA sells at wholesale prices.
I get the same deal at MBSD, but that's only because i know all the guys that work there, plus I get another 10-
20% off with my MBCA membership.

by the way Mike, i forgot to ask you, what happened with the Pano-Roof issue on the R-Class ???

Do you know what wholesale prices are, is there a percentage reduction you can do on MSRP to find what the cost of an item would be?

Thanks,
Lowell

Hey Carlos,

About the roof - it's kind of funny with the new R class. You have to normalize the roof in at least 2 positions. Closed and open. However, if you don't Do the closed first, you can't close the roof once it's open. In the end, I had to manually close the roof partially, then the control unit finally picked it up and then closed it. Hard to describe, but at least in the end it worked.

Moral of the story - if the battery was disconnected hold the switch closed before you do anything to normalize it closed. Then everything is OK.

If you go to a dealer today and try to get one of these, be prepared for some resistance, esepcially since these are theft relevant parts. But, in the end it can be done.

By the way, don't forget to order a blade key to go along with it - it has a slightly different way of attaching to the key itself, so an old style blade key won't work.

I gotta have that. The old key is cool from a technology point of view, but its so utilitarian looking.

hi Lowell,
i pulled a few invoices from over the past couple of years at MBSD.
MSRP price is actually called "LIST" price (or retail price).
Wholesale, i guess is called "NET" price
and i also believe there is an even lower price called "DEALER" price.

On average, the percentage difference from LIST to NET prices
is roughly 25.2%-26.3%
not sure why exactly the slight fluctuations, maybe it has something to do with US $ vs EURO values.

Recently I've gotten an additional 10% off with my MBCA membership.

i don't know if they'll give you NET price over the phone,
and you're going to go back to square one with shipping/handling prices.

my relationship with MBSD is not the norm. I don't think they offer these prices outright to the public.
In that case, you might want to try HOEHN Mercedes in Carlsbad or some of the others mentioned here in So Cali.
