I know you were excited, but I hope you asked about us guys in the forum that were interested in ordering a key. I guess it wouldn't hurt to call your dealer and ask if I can order one. I'm thinking if I FAX a copy of my title, my drivers license, and have him ship the new key "Signature Required" to the address on the title, and drivers license, that should be proof enough.

Yeah, even the "old" OEM keys have 4 color choices (if I remember correctly)... black, green, red, and blue. I always use the black one. I usually end up chunking the other colors. I should probably save those in case the next owner of my car wants a different color. Oh well.
One thing to keep in mind about out of state or long distance key orders is that some dealers are hesitant about it. I had a similar situation with Sunman, who was in Houston and wanted a keyless go key for his C, and his dealer was a no go. House of Imports took the faxed proof of ownership but wanted a person to go in to sign for the key, and since they knew me I took care of it. Hopefully they won't make a big deal out of it, but you might want to be prepared with a backup plan just in case.

I don't suppose you want to get me a key? I could flip you a couple bucks for your troubles... especially at $80.19 a pop.

I believe the different blades are so that if you have multiple drivers on the car, they can each know which key is theirs and which key controls their driving settings.

The 2007 keys don't have the logo on the back, they are all like this. It does look a little plain I think.

The dealer needs the owner to be there to issue a new key. I think they need a copy of the title of some other documentation as well. It's $200 here in orlando.

Damn, I guess I'll have to re-think this whole "$220 for a plain looking key" thing.

Yeah, no way I want it for that price. Maybe $100ish I would buy it, but not high on my priority list anymore. I want Hands free communication system with voice control system and COMAND installed. There goes about $5000...

Does anyone know if those part numbers in the picture a page back are good for all Benz models, or only the C?

I had posted about the new key on the SL board today before coming across this thread.

The only difference in keys would be if the car has keyless go or not and if so which version it has. (there are several) So, the key part number for a C would be exactly the same number as an SL if the SL doesn't have keyless go.

If I still lived in CA, I would in a moment. However I live in frozen MI now, (OK not frozen yet) and the dealers around here SUCK on any level. But if you have someone you prearrange with the dealer to sign for the key and fax the documentation they may go for it. It all depends on the people at the dealer.

Welcome to my world. I haven't given the dealer in Baton Rouge a fair shake yet. Maybe they'll be more helpful than the Lafayette dealer.

I tried to go that route, but it didn't fly. I even tried to get the MO dealer to do a "dealer-to-dealer" transfer and then I could pick it up local, but that didn't fly either. I stopped by the local dealer this morning and pulled one of the parts guys aside and explained my situation. He was empathetic with my situation and we worked out a possible plan. More on that in a few days.

Yeah, but the extra bling takes some of the sting out of the 169 bucks the new keys cost. And these things are so farking unreliable. I'm on number 4...with 27K miles on the car. ABSOLUTE BULL**** that MB took what was a simple, reliable system, and turned it into an overpriced assreaming.

Besides, the black ones look dull after awhile as well.

It completly astounds me that the dealers are so ignorant about such a simple thing. The only thing that matters is whether or not the car has DAS3, which all current production cars have. And the keyless go part too, but that's it. I guess it goes to show how stupid Americans are! (as a whole that is) There are so many times I'm embarassed to be an American. Instead actually trying to think for a moment and accepting that is is possible, most just shut the whole thing down because they don't want to deal wtih it. That is terrible.

Is it possible to order this key for other models rather than the C-classe? For example for the W210 -02? Right now I have the small key with a chromestar on the back.

It looks a little off.........I would've preferred it if they had kept the Star on the back. It looks naked on the back with the Star!

Tell him that he and they are full of it. They can drive my 06 using the new style. Wish they would just order the parts we ask for instead of lecturing us.

Any other CDN's get this at a better price.

But will they actually allow you to order it online? I would imagine you will have to provide them with some sort of proof of ownership. I can't see how they would sell it to you otherwise!
