I know this is an old thread. I STFF and came up with nothing. I know the Bose speakers are ~2ohms. Does anyone know if there would be improved bass if the stock bose sub was replaced with one of the same size and same amount of ohms. I know that would be hard to find, and will most likely be a thicker sub than the very thin bose sub. Coming from the 2 12's in my Acura to the Bose in the benz, its a really big difference, but i could live with it. Does anyone else know of any other things that can be done to the stock bose sub to improve the bass that is heard?

It didn't make the bass any louder, but the volume was always consistent.

One thing I can tell you that really helped out with consistent bass was removing the in-cabin microphone. It eliminated the radio getting quiet (even when the speed sensitive feature was turned off by the dealership).

Did my own sound system and yes you WILL need to gynamat the underside of the rear deck. Its a sealed chambered box with 2-10" kickers facing backwards.

My rear shelf rattles like all hell too, Drexappeal, did you ever get this fixed under warranty, if so where in L.A. did you go? I went to Beverly Hills and all they did was upgrade the audio software, it does sound better, but the trunk release button and rear shelf still rattle terribly.
I'm gonna try one more time when I bring it in for Service B.

Drex in your case you may not have Dynamat the whole shelf. A few small strips on the underside near the sub would more than liklely do the job...

Simonson in Santa Monica did a decent job, added felt under rear hat shelf helped out a good deal, only rattles with bass up at the higher levels and at loud volume, as opposed to before when it rattled with ANY bass. I still desire just slightly more bass, it's pretty good right now though. Has anyone tried this powered compact Kenwood "subwoofer": http://www.crutchfield.com/S-cPeiiUR...sp?i=113KSCSW1
It looks like just what I need, but I hate to spend a couple hundred and it either doesn't do much or sounds worse than stock, any comments?

So today i decided to remove the hatshelf area to check out the Bose sub and to possible try the sealing thing to improve its thump. Now, i'm not exactly sure how much sealant to put an where. There's not much room there to put anything and i really can't see that it needs too much.
My other thought is to just replace this sub, if i can find one that fits, it's about 8.5". Then the stock set up i'm sure wouldn't have enough oomph for it.
Or i could just get a sub in the trunk, something like the infinity basslink setup, and just remove the sub, leaving that area for the sound to travel through.
Any thoughts/suggestions? I'm looking to maintain the most stock like look.

Hello,
I have the H/K on my car, and the rear shelf rattles like crazy too. Im assuming it will look the same when i remove the rear shelf like you did. From examining the rear shelf, it seems like the vibration comes from the actual cover of the woofer, in your case the plastic piece that has the 'bose' emblem. and like u said there isnt that much room in there to add too much sound insulation. i think in theory that adding some dynamat on the plastic cover underneath might help the vibration more than anything. btw, how difficult was it to take the rear shelf off? i always want to try it, but i chicken out

LOL...Great minds think alike, B. As many times as I've tried to have the dealership get rid of the rattle, the only way for it not to be there is when I raise the sunshade.

It was a bit difficult, especially if you have the rear sunshade. Folding rear seats make it somewhat easier, but harder at the same time. Mine wasn't rattling so much, i just wanted to look into the sealing mod to improve the bass response. For the HK system, i think the sub is somehwhere in the spare tire area right?
the sub for the h/k in the wagons and the coupes are in the spare tire area. mine is exactely were your is at. rear shelf, driver's side.
i tried putting up the sunshade, it makes a LITTLE difference, but still rattles. makes me sad

Well here is an update. There wasn't really anywhere to seal on this Bose setup. The person who did it on that one forum's setup is a lot different. I just dynamatted the plastic housing for the sub as well as around the area underneath the sub that you see when you open the trunk.
As for the results, the bass seemed a bit tighter and cleaner but that may just be placebo. I'd say it's not worth it if you are looking to seal/insulate/dynamat it because its just too difficult to remove the hatshelf and re-install it, especially if you have the sunshade.
For those who are rattling, there isn't much that you can change underneath the hatshelf. For some reason i never get that rattle even when the shade is up, no matter how loud i turn up the volume.

I have the same problem in my c240 w203, I noticed it only after having Audio 10 installed in my car. Its a non-bose system and the sound comes from the speaker grill in my car. when I place my hand on the grill the rattle stops.
