2006 Lexus IS 350 > 2006 MB C350 SS
C350 SS has a 3.5L 24-valve V-6 engine with 268 hp
IS350 has a 3.5L V-6 with 306 hp, not to mention it has AWD as an option
IS350 price range from $30000-$40000...
What you guys think? Are Japanese Cars catching up? Or you're MB 4 life
I love 300hp Japanese car!
Japanese cars ( really only Lexus ) is 'trying' to catch up but not without another 10+ years. At least, a good start is the brand Lexus officially adopted in Japan market. Here, few months back, the dealer priced the GS300 as close to a E320 ! And, the answer is they did not get any sales and had to lower the price after 2 months.
If USA to pay 40K for a IS350 (mid sedan) , we in Asia will pay 80K+ and this price is good for a 2006 E280 V6 , which in Asia represents a high status symbol for entry to luxury car ownership status.
Japanese cars will catch up the specification ( especially after the 280hp ceiling removed ); but they will not catch up the status of branding, resale market, varieties of car models, engine speciifcations that MB can offer. MB is still a company that sooo 'fit for growth'. Just look at now AMG version of new models can be launched almost in parelle as the basic ones. And, as I read, the 2007 C-Class will a car that has so much fun and no cars ever can beat. And, don't forget another big competitor BMW 3 Series.
Just keep our eyes opened.
cnt
That makes for a torque poor motor, or one that has its torque peak well up in the rev range. Getting off the line quickly requires good traction and good torque. So....you have a lower torque motor, coupled to the oft front driven japanese cars meaning poorer off the line traction and its easy to see why a 260HP TL-S is no match for a torquey rear drive car.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

Hmm, last time I checked, this was also available in the C350 4MATIC?

If you're going to go that cheap, why not compare it to a C230k?

Face it, some of you bought the MB because of the God forsaken 3 pointed star. To the person who responded that Japanese cars are made of junk, you also happen to ride a Suzuki bike. I guess that's Italian. What happened to the Ducati or are you going to tell me that Ducati bikes suck?
As for cntlaw, MBs tend to have far better resale values in many Asian regions, especially Hong Kong, because of the "status symbol". They could care less how reliable the vehicle is, especially when most of their commutes are less than a couple of miles (< 3km).

A friend of mine has an C5 Z06, and after taking that for a ride, I didn't think you'd ever see a better deal for the money...but I was wrong.
