Question For those with "No Telephone" in their C

I did not purchase the integrated phone for my C. I notice that when I use the steering wheel controls to cycle thru the different menus, I always see the screen that tells me I have "No Telephone."

Is there a way to disable this screen so it is skipped as I cycle through the menus????? If there is, does anybody know the steps? Even if you need the MB computer to do it, I'd still like to get the necessary steps as I'm sure my dealer will have no idea how to do this.

Get the MB Audio 10 CD player, then it says NO REMOTE instead.

And now for a serious answer... The dealer will be able to program it not to display "No Phone." They have this situation with all models (I believe), so they should be familiar with the procedure. No one has posted the MB computer steps on this forum, so we don't know the steps. Sorry.

Used to **** me off to see NO PHONE all the time when using the computer, now kinda got used to ignoring it.

Would love to get rid of the stupid message though, too.
Let us know.

haha!!! this is what happens when marketing gets involved. they let you know every step of the way that you don't have the phone, but you WANT the phone. why? to make that little message go away! every time it pops up it reminds the driver that their car is missing a feature that some others have. f-ing brilliant. completely infuriating, but brilliant!

Yes, its all configurable from the star diagnosis, on the "instrument cluster" settings.

Theres some very interesting settings in there (seat belt warnings, whether messages use text or symbols, language sets, and apparently speed limiter settings)

This would then imply that instead of NO PHONE we can have the dealer put something else in. I am sure the forum members that have lots of problems could have fun with this.

Sadly it doesnt. They can tell the instrument cluster that the phone is not there, and it will skip that menu. same with all the audio/nav screens

Has any one purchased the phone after the delivery of the car? Is it going to cost the same or is it much higher? The mbusa.com sells it for about 1500 USD. What will be the install charges?

According to my local dealer, In stardiagnosis :-

Control Units -> Info. and comms. -> ICM -> Control Unit Adaptations -> Version Coding -> Optional Equipment

In the optional equipment menu you can set the following
to present or not-present depending on what you have

AUDIO, Tele-aid, Cellular Telephone, Trip Computer, Navigation

He beleives that turns on and off different menus.

I wonder how hard it would be to install. The phone seems to use a number of easily accessable jacks and wires (in the console compartment, by the subwoofer, etc.) that even a semi-competent numbnut could potentially hook-up. Since on a new car they do this at the VPC, I can imagine that it's not too labor intensive - otherwise they'd have the individual dealers do it.

Hmmm...

The biggest issue is programming the COMAND to tell it the phone is there. It will probably work without being programmed, but will throw up errors next time Star diagnosis is connected, and may do odd things ..

i got my 60c installed at VPC, but my dealer quoted 4 hours of installation time when i asked about it.... thats like 380 bucks...

with the amount of phone time i log, i must say it was agreat deal, not as good as c7, but i dont regret it one bit

:-) I find it a bit strange that its there. If the dealer is installing phone, they have to use star diagnosis to configure the head-unit, so the 2 minutes extra to do the cluster is trivial.
[whereas if they didnt have to plug in Star etc etc at all it would save ~20 minutes]

On EU cars, if you dont order the phone, I dont beleive you get that screen. [someone correct me if im wrong].

So, I beleive that the previous poster who said it is MB USA marketting dept is probably right !

I had the dealer take out the NO PHONE message using Star Diagnostics for free. Now it takes less time to scroll through the display.

Star Diag Charges

Yes you better believe it, MB will "try" to charge you if you ask them to go into the SD program for a non-warranty item.

I was having them dump out some of the performance settings, change to Netherlands (Norway), and remove the No Tel, so of course they wanted to charge me something. As I recall $60 was their minimum.

So the "No Tel" message is standard issue? sounds like it is.

Anyway, get rid of that message, simply looks crappy. Your friends will think you are too cheap, when actually you were smart not to buy a 3x overpriced cellphone, that will be outdated next year.

cheaper?

anyone try attaining the car kit from a third party source, and installing it at a third party source? my dealer says its $2000 installed if not from the factory.

by the way if you really like the V60 but don't want the MB version, Brandsmart is selling it for $68 w/ 1 year contract w/ Cingular this week. At that price I may break down and buy one now instead of the upcoming V60i.
