Hi,

Except more bass, how much better does Audio 10 sound in terms of treble and mid-range compared with the stock HU?

On the cassette radio I had to turn down treble to get some assemblence of bass. The audio 10 allows you to use the tone controls as intended and the music sounds more balanced. It's the radio that should have come on the car in the first place. My only complaint is the RDS makes changing stations slow so I turned that off unless I really want to know the artist that's playing or how to spell Avril Levign.

It depends on the station. The step on the Audio 10 is 9kHz and in the US it is 10kHz. You certainly cannot seek successfully, unless the station lands exactly on a 9kHz step.

So, Bob, in your area, I used to get

820 on 819
1080 in 1080

These are the only 2 I used to listen to, but I know that I coudln't get 1310 - the separation from the center frequency was too great.

So, basically, it's pot luck.

I was more than happy to trade the improved sound quality and CD for the loss of some AM stations, while retaining the factory look and steering wheel controls.

BTW, I'm not conservative, but I like the traffic reports on 820 and 1080!

Important to mention is that the Audio 10 remembers the tone settings individually for the CD and each radio preset, so that one can tweak the tone for each station individaully and not have to change it when you go back to that station.

None of the AM stations in my area come in clear. I am extremely happy to have an indash CD with steering wheel controls and great sound compared to stock.

The RDS in my area only seems to work on a few stations and I have never seen the artist name appear.

Don't know exactly what that means but when you press the CD button it toggles back and forth between the in dash cd and the changer. In changer mode the arrow buttons on the left allow you to switch CD up and down (not directly like the cassette where you press 3 to go to CD # 3) and then switch track within the chosen CD using the side arrows. The steering wheel controls are identical to the cassette radio.

So where do I go to get a new Audio 10 HU? Is Ebay-Germany the only source? Which model is preferred (Model #) for the c-coupe and why?

Thanks

You can get a new one for $649 at Autoclass

It is the last item on the page. Note that the picture is incorrect. That is the Audio 10 for all MB's except the W203 C's and new E's.

I'll have one to sell soon. It's in Germany being repaired. Once it's refurbed or exchanged they will warranttee it for 90 days. If anyone is interested let me know. Depending on the repair costs I will probably sell it for $350. Yes, more money than taking a risk on German e-bay but still almost half the price of a new one and with a warranttee.

The Audio 10 came as stock on the coupe in Australia so can't really compare. It sounds pretty good to me, although I may change the speakers to a higher quality brand.

What i would like to know is how the Audio 10 compares to the sound you get from the command system? Can anyone make a comparison?

I have a Audio 30 Cassette that sounds just as bad as a Command system if you want to buy it? If you just want a hear a sample, on your Audio 10, turn the bass to 5 and treble to 2 and you'll understand how the Command and Audio 30 CC sounds like at full bass and treble.

Wanna Hear Audio 10

Hey Buellwinkle,

I really would like to hear that Audio 10. I am bringing my car to the dealer for a wash on Saturday. Any possible way we could meet there so I could hear it??

Let me know. Earlier the better so we don't have to wait that long..

Thanks,

Laura

My car is in the shop now having the windshield center vent fog problem fixed so it will be washed when I pick it up tomorrow. But you can certainly listen to it on Saturday while you wait for your car to be washed. Let me know what time you will be there.
