BRAKE Pad, Rotors, & Calipers Discussion Thread (OEM, aftermarket, etc...)
UPDATE:
One website states the following:
Which direction should the discs rotate?
It is a popular misconception that the slots or drillings in a disc determine the direction of rotation. In truth, for an internally vented disc, the geometry of the vanes dictates the direction of rotation. There are three vane types in use:
Straight
Pillar vane (comprised of many small posts)
Curved vane
The first two vane types are non-directional, and can be used on either side of the vehicle. The curved vane disc, however, is directional. A curved vane disc must be installed with the vanes running back from the inside to outside diameters in the direction of rotation. Please see figure. Orienting the disc in the manner creates a centrifugal pump. The rotation of the disc causes air to be pumped from the center of the disc, through the vanes, and out through the outside diameter of the disc. This greatly enhances the disc's ability to dissipate heat.
Additionally, all of Brembo's slotted discs are directional as well, regardless of the vane geometry. The discs should be installed such that the end of the slot nearest the outer edge of the disc contacts the pad first. Please see figure.
Directionally the rotors should be mirrored like this:

I ended up getting them from "buy mb parts" for $208 shipped.
They sell them in singles, not pairs. Be sure to specify left and right side.
I don't see it on the website you mentioned. It comes up with OEM ones. Do you have the link or the part number for the brakepads on the site? I'm assuming you have the sports suspension on your ride as well.
Do they have front and rear or just front?
Thanks

I got Brembo rotors for my '06 from Auto Value here in St. Louis. Took two days for them to get them from the main warehouse. I may be a little off but I recall them costing around $120 a piece.

I'm buying the rotors tomorrow at a dealer for $128 + tax each. (zimmermann)
If I had more time, I'd go to Buy MB Parts for $104 shipped total. Unfortunately, I need it asap so i gotta pay $50 more at the dealer.
It's confirmed. The OEM ones are two of the same side. Two lefts I believe. One rotor is actually turning the wrong way. Stupid MB people. Ugh.

They had to special order it, and I received it in 3 days.
If anyone wants slotted rotors, I have 'em for sale in the thread shown in the sig.
I'm also looking to buy CrossDrilled Rear Rotors and have to look around for them. If you have a recommendation on where to buy them on the internet, please let me know.
Thanks!

You can guy rotors at buy mb parts.
The slotted Brembo's I got were a bit over half the weight at about 25 lb.
What's up with that?
Has anyone else noticed the weight of the stock rotors? That's a pretty good way to shed weight if you're into that sort of stripping kinda thing.
How does this compare to other brands of rotors?

- How to grease up and place the new pads back into place.
- How to secure the shim onto the brake pad.
- How to secure the brake sensor onto the pad.
- Using the c-clamp to pull pistons out of the way so the caliper will fit back onto the rotor
If anyone has photos of the steps above please upload them to your own site or wherever and reference it from this thread. Thanks!
NOTE: After doing my own research and going through all the brake pad/rotor threads here on mbworld and gathered some important details you'll want to know.
- Buy your rotors at buy mb parts dot com
- If you want ceramic pads, buy them at parts america dot com.
- Torque bolts that secure the caliper to 25 ft lbs.
If this spec is incorrect, please correct me and pm me asap b/c that's what I currently have mine set up at. Thanks!
- Our c230 does not have an electronic SBC to worry about. You do not need to disengage anything like you do for the E class Mercedes. The caliper will NOT crush your fingers with the car off.
- The smart guys at MB specified our cars (Kompressor sports) with two left rotors. The right side one spins the wrong way. They apparently did not contract with Zimmermann to fabricate a mirrored right side rotor. It matters b/c our rotors have a directional vane (this means that the cross drilled pattern is designed to spin a particular direction). If you have two identical rotors with the same pattern, it makes sense that the left and right sides are mirrored. Our cars are not. Apparently some other aftermarket companies fabricated a left and right one. I'd go with those if you can locate them. I think it's EBC that has done it correctly. All this means that if you pick up rotors from the dealer, they will give you two left rotors b/c that's all they have. It will work fine since it's what comes with the car OEM anyway. Another member confirmed that his c32 AMG is the same way.
