My European Delivery in 2002 had the following:
-No destination charge, a $800 savings
-German registration and insurace at no cost
-Two nights at a 5 star hotel in Germany, many cities to choose from
-Free priority tour of the factory
-$50 worth of lunch at the kundercenter café
-Free taxi ride from downtown Stutgart to Singelfein

I believe that the current European Delivery program provides 5% off of the list in addition to what I list above. Note that the 5% is only on certain models, no AMGs, no SLKs, etc.

06 Savings include:

There is a 7% discount off MSRP on many models
$775 delivery chare is wauved
There is one free hotel rather than two
The factory lunch coupon is for 65 Euros which is about $80
They now give you two taxi coupons

You might be able to negotiate something off the dealer's profit. If you can't get any discount, PM me and I will let you know where you can get the Alps Rally included. (Worth $1,300)

Basically I was just wondering if I can play with the numbers when I get to the dealer or what. But I guess I will just see what happens.

I understand your question. The basic answer is no. These days, most dealers will not discount the EU-delivered price, simply because they have no margin on these sales to begin with. A friend who was an F&I mgr at an MB dealership told me that they now receive only a small concession for ordering an OSD car - no markup in the traditional sense, and of course no holdback, either. So there is not much there for them to discount.

Because the OSD price gets you both 7% off the US MSRP AND no delivery charge, the actual discount on the average C-class is nearer 9-10%...plus you get to equip the car exactly the way you want it, rather than take what the dealer has.

It is also true that if you can live with what's on the ground at a dealer, are shopping at the right time of year [like now], and there are dealer incentives on the table, you can clearly make a better deal without the trip.

If you're planning to go anyway [we are over there generally about once a year], and can deal with the 90 day "float" that a EU deal imposes, the experience is worth something. For me, the best part is being able to get a heavily discounted car WITHOUT all of the unnecessary equipment that the dealers usually order for their stock cars - I want a car with just met paint and fold-down seats, and nothing else - this car is simply impossible to find on the ground anywhere in the country.

What do you mean about the 90 day float?

i'm definitely thinking of doing the Euro Delivery deal with my next MB/AMG purchase.... not so much for the discounts (if any) but just for the trip and the experience. That ALPS RALLY would be a must-do !

90 Day Float

What I was referring to is that payment for your overseas delivered car is due at least a couple of weeks [or is it 30 days?] before you leave to pick it up; you drive it over there for, say, 2 weeks; to the East Coast, it can take 4-6 weeks to return, West Coast up to 8 weeks, depending on the shipping schedules. Then, you can trade in your current car, if you only have one car, as we do....so for somewhere between 2 and 3 months, the interest [whether real or imputed] on the value of your current trade is on you - you've paid for the new car, but have had the actual use of it for about 2 weeks out of 10-12 weeks since full payment was due.

I just use 3 months as a rule of thumb to make the calculation...again, not a biggee or deal-breaker, but something to keep in mind when you sit down to ponder the alternatives.

One More Thing....

....to keep in mind: the new Mercedes museum is scheduled to open in early May of 2006, along with a new delivery center nearby. Right now, the delivery center is at the factory in Sindelfingen [and very nice it is, too], and the old museum is "downtown" at Unterturkheim near the soccer stadium. The new facilities will be at Unterturkheim, which is "world HQ" for the company, as well as a factory site. I am trying to see how we can coordinate things to be able to see the new museum as part of the trip - the old museum was fine in its way, but too small to house anything but a fraction of the fantastic stuff they have to show. (Even then, it was better and more complete in every way than the museums for BMW and Porsche, both of which are also working on new facilities, which won't be open until much later [late '06 or '07].)

It's not likely that you will get any discount besides the 7% and $775 destination charge. I didn't get any b/c I didn't try but a couple of SLK owners got $2000 off MSRP with the EDP discount. I definately recommend it, it's the best way to buy a mercedes. The black forest/alps rally goes by quick, I recommend staying a few more days after. Enjoy, do a search for Euro Delivery here and at benzworld.org, plenty of useful tips and info from other members and myself. Enjoy.

Also, if you fly with Lufthansa, it's buy a ticket and get the other free, it's not advertise by Mercedes. It's a great deal especially if you fly to Germany in Oct and Nov, non-busy months.

With the European Delivery Program, you can drive your new Mercedes-Benz straight out of our factory and onto the Autobahn - the pinnacle of the German driving experience.

Just minutes from downtown Stuttgart, our European Delivery Centre in Sindelfingen will give you a first-hand look at the meticulous attention to detail that went into building your vehicle. After you've taken a look behind the scenes, gain some experience behind the wheel and enjoy a driving tour of Europe. Once your adventure is over, simply leave your vehicle at a drop-off point and we'll ship it back home to Canada.*

* The program offers a convenient return-shipping package to Halifax, Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver. All Canadian duties and taxes and must be paid upon return to Canada.
Straight quote from MB Canada..so I dont really see how you save money, when you still have ot pay all the duties and taxes..

I'm not sure what duties you'll have to pay in Canada but in the states, you will have to pay sales taxe when it arrives. It's the same if you buy it here, can't avoid it. IIRC, if your car has over 7,500 miles or 91 days old, you don't have to pay sales tax in California, don't know about other states.

In the US, the models with the 7% discounted price includes all inport costs including delivery of the car to your dealer. You only pay your normal local T & L costs.
