Can C class key's be programed w/seat memory?

Hi,

I've got a new 2005 C230K and one of the options is the power seats/steering column with 3 memory settings.

Question I have is, shouldn't each key that comes with the car be able to be programed to a specific memory setting? When I unlock the car, shouldn't iit automatically adjust the seats, steering wheel and mirrors to my memory setting, and likewise when my Wife unlocks using her key shouldn't it re-adjust to match her memory settings?

I know my 2003 VW Passat wagon can do this, so I would assume my new Benz can too, but so far haven't found anything about it in the manual, and the dealer who sold the car to me wasn't sure if that was a "feature" or not.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Read your owners manual!

And the answer is yes!

I'll look more closely, I read through the section on setting the memory for the seats but didn't see anyting about programing the key to the seat memory.

It has to be set per key in the Multi Function Display. It is explained step by step in the manual.

The function is called "Key dependent" in the settings area. Turn this on from "no" to "YES" and this function will be activated.

See Garage
The feature works once the key is inserted, but not when the doors are first unlocked. The unlock seat movement would be a neat feature, but it doesn't work that way.

In sum, the remote unlock works independently from the seat memory positions. The key has to be in the slot for the system to sense the settings in the key.

Exactly right! Our chevy suburban works when you press the "unlock" button, but not when you put the key in (It doesn't have a smart key like MB). However, since we leave our cars unlocked in the garage, we don't need to press the unlock button before getting in, so I have to manually select the setting (saved in memory) for the suburban, but it's automatic for the MB.

My bad. Didn't read the question carefully. I concur with what MB-BOB says. This only happens when the key is inserted.

Well that's a bummer...

Because if I get in the car after my wife has been driving the seat is too far foward to be comfortable. I guess I'll just have to press the button on the door before I jump in if it's not already in my preferred seating positon.

Our VW Passat has each key setup to remember each drivers memory seat settings, so when you unlock it and open the door, the seats, steering wheel and mirrors automatically move into the proper place before you even sit down.

I can understand the safety feature of not doing this but I guess I would have thought that it would have been available as an option like it is on the VW.

Oh well...
Thanks for the help folks, because I had key dependent set to yes all along and was expecting the seats, wheel and mirrors to auto-readjust when unlocked.

Jay
