W203 Coding mods with photos. New features.

Some of these are only valid on 2005 specification but I am satisfied that there are many older cars with some or all of these features.

There is no verification of tyre pressure loss system giving any indication. It is not a proven mod at this moment (of this thread)

Shown below
-------------
- Tank volume with range indication

- Auto closing mirror menu (with motorised mirrors)

- Tyre pressure loss activation

- Turning lamps (active fogs) with indicators and with cornering

woah, I want to get the tank left measurement and the turning fogs...

so where exactly is it in the StarDiag menu? my car is at the dealer, and hopefully I can get them to do it...

for the autofolding mirrors, do you need the power seat package?

also, what exactly is the exit lights on front doors? are those the lights right below the front doors? are they standard on US cars?

great mods!

hi benzmodz,

you're saying that these are possible mods to be added to the menu?

I'm interested in
- Tank volume with range indication
- Auto closing mirror menu (with motorised mirrors)

The folding mirrors are located in the "personal preference" section of the cluster but are not visible till activation.

To do this you need someone with specially modified Star Diagnose.

The turning lights are in the "FRONT SAM" the other mods are something Steve / Scorchie can do. There are limits to how many things a dealer can do.

The mirror menu and tank volume is not something a dealer can do.

MAYBE some dealers can do "turning lamps" and "tyre pressure loss"

Motorised mirrors are the ones that fold .... as per menu.

Exit lights shine down from the door and I dont know if they are common in the USA. All I know is that base model Mercedes dont have it but high spec models do. It is a $20 kit but needs someone to remove door trim.

Miro, activation of the power folding mirrors do not require special stardiagnose...it can be done with any stardiagnose.

Mirror folding when locking is ONLY possible in combination with the actual power folding mirrors (mirror will not fold just by changing this setting).

greetingz,
Hey Steve, and what about the "Tank volume with range indication", the normal stardiagnose will do the thing?
Any proceedure steps will be apreciated to ask it to my dealer, Thanks :p

greetingz,
thanks Steve, I was aware of that, my question was intending to ask if I had the power fold mirrors, did I need the power seats for it to auto fold. I remember someone telling me that I would have to do it manually (by pressing the buttons) w/o the power seats.

thanks!

The true story is that if you have a US car without sunroof and without a mameory driverside seat - you will have to swap out BOTH door control modules as both are not compatible with the power folding mirrors.

If you have a US spec car without a memory driverside seat but with a sunroof (and thus with auto dimming mirrors!!!), you only need to replace the passenger side door control module as that one is not compatible with the power folding mirrors.

If you have a car with memory driverside seat - both door control modules are able to support power folding mirrors and no DCMs need to be replaced.

MB has 2 DCMs...one DCM is plain standard and that is what most of us with ROW cars get...the other DCM is full optioned and supports all possible options such as memory seats, auto dimming mirror glasses and power folding mirrors.

wether the mirrors auto fold or not has nothing to do with your seats...with a standard DCM - the mirrors don't fold (not at all - not even with the switch) and with a full optioned DCM the mirrors do fold.

greetingz,

Steve,

Thanks again for all the installs. I still haven't gotten a hold of my cousin's camera, but I will post pics once I do.

BTW...another thing that might need to be re-iterated (even though it's been stated in other threads), '05 and up only have the option to have the mirrors close with the alarm lock button. '04.5 and before can have the folding mirrors, but cannot be programmed to close with the alarm lock.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Steve, but that's what I remember you telling me in email.

I have a 1 week old C320 Cdi estate (german Built)with Memory Seats and folding mirrors. Is it possible to have the mirrows folding on locking.

greetingz,
That is true and I dont conceal that SOME things can be dealer activated .... but then XENON=PRESENT seems to be challenging enough for some technicians.

It is obvious that the total package of coding mods only comes from your specially modified diagnose coding and that in some cases, if the person is really wanting this function, that the front SAM (fuse box) needs to be reflashed or replaced. I have already placed 2 on order because the specific comand to fold in the mirrors on lock is not visible in the unit.

THe reason why VERY new cars seem to code better is that the front SAM seems to have more software.

The special menu in the instrument cluster to request folding or not folding is or is not ???? something any dealer can do ?

As far as I understand it, any 2005 and up w203 (on the MOST system) can have the auto folding close when locking.

Can you pls give a two line description of what stardiagnose is / does and who is likely to have it in the UK? (dealers? or we just buy it?).

Much appreciated

THe means by which the OBD-II system is controlled and managed by an external PC based software system. Usually on a laptop running WinNT4 or WinXP. The hardware is from IBM or HP and the interface module is from Actia in France.

...which is still true for at least 75% of the pre 2005 203s...as most of the pre 2005 203s don't come with a front SAM module that has the required software for mirror folding.

stardiagnose is the system mercedes dealers use in their shop to diagnose cars - you as a privateer cannot buy that from daimler chrysler...every MB dealer has stardiagnose.

I believe sunman already accomplished upgrading to a MOST system in his car, but my memory is very vague (since he's done SO many "impossible" OEM mods that it's hard to keep track).

It is a safety function which I would speculate is of a lower rank than the look of the car on the road.

There is the "mod squad" (ala 90210, OC, Charmed) and there is the driver's driver. The twain shall never cross.
