133MPH is plenty fast for me, are you 6spd or auto?

I think I read somewhere on the forum on a limiter on our cars.

If you where driving with an Auto, where you on 4 or D when hitting those speeds? Just curious.

All US delivery cars are speed governed. The exact speed governed varies by model. I believe my C320 is governed at 142. But I've never been there to validate that.

my gov is also at 133 on my C320 coupe (auto). Hit it on fathers day early morning (about 6 a.m.) on the way between San Fran & San Diego.

So seeing that you are well into the 5k range, does this mean the 230 is geared much lower than the 320? I don't remember my car reving nearly that high.

All USA MB's are governed at 132MPH, yes you will hit 133 before it kicks in and some vary slightly. My wife said she had ours to 135 before it cut out. All AMG Models are governed at 155 in the USA as well.

I believe its 155. Just the C320 doesn't have the power reach it.

Some C230's came with rubber that wasn't up to the top speed the cars could deliver, hence the lower limiter. The 2002 C230's top out at 149mph.

When did MBUSA change this? All non-AMG cars in North America regardless of tires have been limited to 220KPH (~137MPH) for years. AMGs are 250KPH (~155MPH). I can't remember if the V-12s are 220 or 250 but there are only 2 limits here. In EU, the limit can be raised to 300KPH (~186) only at the factory and only on AMG cars with the correct tires.

I have a 2005 c320 coupe that we picked up at the plant in Germany. We were told that since we were driving the car for 2 weeks in Europe that MB would not re-chip car when it got state side. (didn't know there was a diff.) Car is not Gov.. Have had it to 158 a dozen times. Friend has a modded 94 rx-7 and he was behind me the last time we did the top speed run to his home for confirmation.

This is not the experience I've had with every EU delivery I've done over the years. The car you get over there is the very car you would have received in the USA had you taken delivery here. The last one I picked up over there was a 2004 S500 Sport that came with Z rated tires. 220KPH and not a tick more just like the 2000 E430 Sport before that and the SL500 before that. All had Z rated rubber. I can't really remember if the 560SEC was limited or not. It was an EU model that I imported myself. The weather was so crappy that we didn't get much of a chance to oper her up.

thats what I thought. That the cars were the same. However when he asked us where we were going to drop the car off to be shipped back and we told him Paris in 2 weeks he told us about the no re-chip. Kinda worried me at first but thought oh well guess thats normal. Anyhow the car is quick. Quicker than I had thought it would be and I have had M BMW's, TT RX-7 and a 430 Masir.

Doesn't make sense but if your car goes that fast, consider yourself lucky. No one I know has been able to go over the 220 limit imposed in recent years. What tires do you have?

BTW, all cars go back to the factory before being sent to the USA.

155mph max for UK C320CDI (which arrives TOMORROW..) although I suspect that its top speed is not much over 155.1 anyway - I think they thought it would be impressive to say it was capped.

I'm not sure if the 155mph is a manufacturers alliance or a institutional mandate.

250KPH is a manufacturer's alliance (gentlemen's agreement) between MB, BMW and Audi.

So, what were you saying about a lack of power?

i will disagree with the lack of power in the C320. If the power between 110 and 130 contines to any degree (assuming the limiter was not there) i would say it would have the power, no questions about that.

ALSO, would like to note. Earlier toward the top of this thread it was stated that a 230 was well into the 5k range at 130... well mathmatics would tell me that in order to do 149.... a 230 would be PAST redline at which point a rev limiter would kick in.

As for the 320... I can not remember what my rev's were sitting at at 130mph, but i do not believe they were to 5k yet. at 60 its 2,200 rpm at 80 its 3k and 3,500 i think about 90'ish.
