greetingz,

Can you tell me the procedure for swapping out a US spec mount for a European one? Is it fairly simple?
Also, do you know the part number for one in black (color code 040)?

thanks!
Jim

Euro license plate mount

There is one on eBay right now. Here's a pic of the part number...

Even though it's a euro-spec part, I'm going to see if my local dealer can order it in black(040).

Euro-only spec parts don't even show up on MBUSA computers.

the US-spec trunklid extends only a little out from where the license plate sides end. the Euro-spec extends further out to accomodate European licese plates. It is a subtle difference.

Check out Steve's website with side-by-side comparisons on an E Class (w211):

I know there aren't many peeps on here that have my color (Wiedermann is the only one that I can remember), but 904 midnight blue is already a done deal!

I ll ***** out my pic. Thanks to Steve, here is mine

Note: you will need to slightly modify the euro insert to fit into a US spec trunk as well as redrilled the lic plate inorder to mount it on.

Looks awesome, IMO.

When you say "slightly modify", what exactly do you mean? I was aware of having to re-drill the license plate holes for the US license, but I didn't know there are other modifications necessary.

Can you clarify?

or Steve, can you?

Well the insert is being held with one screw in the middle and a bunch of plastic tabs (top and bottom). The US insert mounting points for the bottom tabs are different then the Euro spec insert, therefore you have to trim those off for it to fit. you can use 3M mounting tapes on the bottom so it wont move around, but the top tabs and the screw are more than enough to hold it in place.

edit: you know the California license plate with palm trees is appealing to me (and the redhead of course). Anyone know off the top of their head $ at the DMV?

question. so the modification is only needeed to install "euro plate insert" onto the turnk lid... no midification needed to put US license plate onto the "euro plate insert" correct?!

OKAY. With this information, might as well buy Steve's fresh-looking eurotrunklid inserts instead (for the rest of you considering it!) ;D. Heck, buy two .

silly boys....
There's no need to drill holes.

Get a EURO to US plate conversion kit from MBWerks.
A small bracket uses the existing holes in the Euro-plate bezel and then the bracket has the right dimensions and holes to screw on the US plate.
No drilling required.

I'll have my currently MBWorld posting-challenged husband,
show you his step-by-step picture-filled process later.

I got my Euro-Plate Bezel from Steve (MBenzNL) during his last SoCal trip,
along with rear Parktronic bumper strip & PTS sensors, and COMAND.
