W203 European-plate Trunk Insert thread

Does the US spec. license plate fit okay on it? If so, can you specify it rather than the US spec. plate mount, when you have a car ordered/built? If you have one of these european mounts with a US spec. tag mounted to it, can you post a pic?

i thought european plates were not legal in the US (?)

i've seen some people put them in the front but never in the back.

I doubt you can get an MB dealer to order you a US car with a Euro plate mount. You'd have to find someone like MBenzNL to sell you a separate plate mount, paint it, and replace your US plate mount yourself. Good luck trying to sell it though.

More importantly. Euro plates are not legal. I mean, duh. Come on. Only the plates issued by your state's DMV are legal in your state. And this ain't like a missing front plate, the cops would probably ream you for having an illegal rear plate.

that shouldn't be a problem as the plate inserts are easy interchangeable and one can put the original US one back on...

First of all, where did I say I was going to display a European plate on my car?! I want to know if a US sized plate will fit into the mounting holes provided on a European plate mount (the white primered piece on the back of the car in the picture above). Read the word mount in the title of this post. Second of all, "good luck trying to sell" what? My old US spec. mount? Why would I need to sell the old one?
MBenzNL, since you sell them, do you know the answer to my question? And how much are they? I prefer to get one color coded to my car (if possible).

thanks
Jim

Here's a pic of the Euro mount next to US mount. I like the wider look of the Euro mount. Actually, I'm hoping that a combination of: wide Euro spec license plate mount, C55 spoiler and debadged rear will all combine to give the rear end of my car a wider look

The "wide look" isn't good when it comes to women!

I have various European number plate mounts on my cars. Yes, the US plates can be screwed into the holes on the European plate mounts.

maybe you can do it but you will have to keep the US license plate mount because it got your car's VIN

Not sure where you got that idea? Lots of parts on your car have your VIN. It only needs to be on the car by law in a few places, and behind the license plate is definitely not one of them. (Go to a Toyota dealership sometime.)

Can Euro plate fit on rear?

Does anyone know if there is a different shaped area in the back of the W203 where the plate goes that fits a euro plate instead of the US plate? Or is it the same one? Im thinking its just something that clips in there.

I need to know bc im shipping my C230 overseas in june.

Thanks guys.
