Sidemarkers

evosport is selling these colormatched lenses and they say that light will go through them at night but I was wondering if somebody has seen them at night and could describe how much light gets through, as I'm sure it depends on how many coats of paint they put on.

I'm sure it makes the car look a lot better, but what about the illumination at night?

At night you can see a little illumination that goes through the very sides where the lens meets the housing/body. Only at the sides however. Ill prob. paint my bulbs black so they do not illuminate at all.

The lights still shine through

Tho not very well.

You dont need to paint your bulbs black. Just take the bulbs out of the side marker housing and point them into your car chasis. problem solved

Problem with tucking your bulbs into the chasis is that you will lose the water tight O-ring seal that the bulb holder provides. I'd like to keep the elements out of the reflector housing.

I have that exact same set as the picture on my E55. The paint match up was excellent and I know Simon (Mr. Vanos) tucked his bulbs into the chasis on his E55. I actually didnt put bulbs in at all so when I turn on my lights I get a warning- kind of annoying but I am used to it. Ill probably just pop them off this weekend and put the bulbs back in.

I did test them with the light bulbs and you can definitely see the light but it is very dim. I don't think it looks good with bulbs in.

I'm waiting on my set of clear lenses from mbnz.org.

I'll post pics as soon as I get them.

Hey all opinions are welcome, thus the forums in which we post. In Europe there are no sidemarkers so you can get the Eurostrips for your car if you choose which take out the marker entirely. I believe Lorinser makes them and they should be available for all models. I have the painted markers and have received nothing but compliments on them. The pictures don't do them justice. In my opinion the clear markers start to push the car toward the Honda, Nissan, Acura- you know ricey mods

I like the all silver lines on my car- here is a pic....Thanks Simon for the LM idea- best wheels for this car- IMO.

My apologies in advance for the big pic- but it gives you a better idea.

I have to agree with Vic55. The pictures don't do the pre-painted lenses justice. In person they are simply awesome. Had 2 Mercedes owners already ask me where I got them. As far as safety, I don't really agree they do much for it. Just my opnion.

thaks for the input

my only concern now is the DOT-legality. After I put in european headlights on my Audi, 2 different inspection stations said that they wouldn't pass me because there was no amber reflector up front (thankfully they told me this before I paid). Then the 3rd station I went to didn't give a rat's ***.

I guess I'll have to take my chances if I order them. I must say though, I think the car looks nicer without the amber, and would look even better if it had the whole european bumper strip instead.

Good advice Lynn !! I'm so glad we don't have that inspection B.S. here in California. We just send our renewal fees to the DMV and they send us our tags...

Yea I can understand why some people would view it as ugly. Tho, I have never received any objections to it; only compliments. IMO it gives the car a very clean look. The amber color does stick out.

I never had problem with water getting into the side marker housing. Tho, it doesn't rain often here in LA.

anyways, here are pics of mine:

I'm with MR. BOB

The painted-over lenses make the car look as though it's a stripper model which has some missing optional equipment. The effect is rather like an instrument panel with a large flat black space where the tachometer should be, or a painted patch in the bumper shield where the front fog lights would normally go.

In the early days of side marker lights, they were butt-ugly on European vehicles, screwed onto cars that were not designed for them. These days, cars like the C Class have fully integrated them into the design and there can be fewer legitimate aesthetic complaints. Even if you don't like the look, there is some safety benefit, which should offset any aesthetic concern.

If you still can't tolerate the look of the side marker lights, get the Euro bumper trims. At least they don't have the "el strippo" look.

Either way, your car will be invisible when nosing out into traffic at night, so don't say you weren't warned...

Gee I don't agree with you but then to each his own. I can't remember the last time a sidemarker light caught my eye and saved me from crashing into another car. I can tell that I have seen some ugly orange sidemarkers on new models and though the markers themselves are molded quite well into the lines of the cars, its the color of the lights that disturb me. Ill take the painted ones all day over some non matching orange sunkist colored lamps.

Well the C32 has not been out for a while, so just wait a couple of more months and see what different MB tuners come out with. Try RennTech, or Carlsson, or maybe Kleemann will have some sort of upgrade.

those "patches" remind me of a Mitsubishi DE sedan, where the euro turn signal repeaters (in the fender behind the front wheels) are deleted in the states and replaced by a fill patch labelled "DE." It just screems, "Oh, yeh, that's where the light normally goes in Europe!"

These guys say they get compliments on the painted-out patches. To me, such "focused" compliments indicate a politically correct observation that something obvious is "missing" like you say. My friends wouldn't dis my car, even if they thought my mods were silly.

I know you are not trying throw a flame but why would you think our "friends" would keep their true opinions to themselves? I am not sure why kind of friends you have but trust me, if someone doesnt like my car they'll let me know and Ill value their opinion like I value yours. That being said, I agree to disagree with you. I'll take the "patches" and you can have your ricey clear ones

Either way we are both screwed since we have to spend stupid money to rid ourselves of some off colored markers.
