Piece of cake to replace, don't understand why they would charge more than 15-30 minutes labor to do it but you know dealers.
Call Hoehn MB in Carlsbad, ask for the wholesale parts desk and order it at the wholesale price, save a $100 or so. Of course if you are wrong, you just blew $300-400 on something you don't need. It could be something else like a vacuum leak or dirty/malfunctioning injectors but it seems like for most people it's the MAF sensor.

K&N filter is the way to go specially once you learn how to replace the MAF sensor as the oil from the filter can contaminate it. Personally I tried it and wasn't impressed, both on the dyno and the way it's made is rather cheap. If I every do aftermarket filter again, I would stick with ITG even though they are a little more expensive than K&N.

As long as we're talking about air filters, does the dealer ever clean them if you give the car for service? I've had my car for 2 years and have never even checked the air filter. Would i just run some water over it.

For your 411, easy, easy job....do an ebay search. I purchased mine on the 'bay' - a Bosch OEM for $200, shipping included. Your codes are fuel trim, left and right bank, respectively. The MAF replacement did the trick. Look up my posts, the posts on this forum are quite comprehensive.
