turns out they are painting the bumper off the car. it was in getting painted along with the grill, and rear PTS strip when i was there this afternoon. i also took in donuts.

turns out my company did the escrow for the business when the guy bought it 5 years ago and he had some quesitons about that. im bringing him some paperwork and recording stuff with the SD county recorders office we normally wouldnt take care of do as a favor to him.

ill post pics of what has been done tonight. they were installing the new radiator when i was there.

looks like progress !

i tend to agree with the painting instructions OUTLAND pointed out.
I had my AMG bumpers fitted first, and when all was OK, they removed them
and had them painted separately OFF the car. It worked out well.
If they don't do that, just make sure they don't overspray, drip, or leave visible masking-marks. Otherwise, you will be having it redone. Good thing they gave you a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Don't take it back until it's done right.

I was thinking of taking off sometime around 8 am to get there by 9:15-9:30.

too bad there aren't any other San Diego MB's driving up. It always sucks to drive up there solo. I've been to about 10 meets now up north of San Diego County and sad to see so little MB enthusiasm down here, despite the large numbers of San Diego MB owners online.

Let me know if that time works for you. I'll start prepping/cleaning my car on Friday.

Doug,
are you getting your rear bumper strip repainted too ?
I remember you once said that the shading was just not right when you had it installed the first time with the PTS sensors.

If so that will be great, no more shading.

here are the latest pics. carlos sorry for missing the meet. i over slept and when i woke up it was nearly 10. i was out partying the night before. i debated driving up, but it just isnt the same in a beetle loaner car, you know? new radiator and im not sure what the rectangle thing is infront of it. is that the trans cooler or the intercooler.

That's the intercooler. Sorry to chime in so late, good to hear you got something good out of this like the nicer bumper and getting rid of the nasty rock chips. This maybe a good time to consider the clear bra, it really keeps the chips off the front. I don't necessarily think that bondo on the fender is bad from a comestic point of view, as long as they tapped it out very close and only used a very thin layer of bondo.

Painting it off the car is the only way to go. I have plenty of experience with this. When I finally get around to getting an AMG nose, it will be painted OFF the car.

You can't blend paint and powder coat. Well, you can try, but it won't age right, even if you can blend it without the wierdness that often accompanies metal flake and powder paint.

I suspect they shot the whole fender. Since you guys are in Kali, the temp changes on the bondo won't be a severe as they would here in the midwest, going from 20 below zero to days over a hundred. Still, I'd avoid bondo when ever possible.

Hey Doug, Steve couldn't find you the AMG bumper?
I see many coupes here with the AMG pack, they look fantastic, yesterday I saw one in red and I have a neighbour with a blue one, they look great in any color.

Certainly one of my next MODs, in the coupe and wagon
