Question windshield shade for C230K?

I am looking for the windshield shade for my C230K, any recommendation? Heard that "the Shade TM" is pretty good. Any other choices? Did Mercedes made one for the C230K? Appreciate for any info & where to get it as well as the price. Thanks in advance.

Mercedes does market one specifically for the Coupe - it's of the accordian folding style made of something called UVS-100 and comes with a storage bag. However, the part number they have is wrong (BQ6670019) - so if you order one from their website or a dealer it won't fit.

Someone else on the forum called the actual supplier and got the correct part number (BQ6670020), but I have yet to order this one to confirm if if it fits.

Cheers, BT

You might want to check out www.canvasworks.com. Their heatshields cost about $30 and work very well. They roll up and fit behind the front passenger seat in the coupe nicely. I've used them on vehicles since 1996. Considerably less expensive than MB sells theirs for and the HeatShield quality is better than any other shades I've seen on the market. Check 'em out.

The one with the 20 on the end is right. I have one--the one for the 4 door cars do not fit. I had to get the one mentioned in the other post. It is like all the other fold up ones that Mercedes has had for years. I'm sure the dealer can show you one for some type of Mercedes but my dealer had to order the one for this car.

The Shade is available from Dash Designs for about $30, shipping included. The Shade attaches to your windshield (it's removable) where it remains clean, and is easily deployed with one hand. Here's a link:

I like the brookstone shades...a silverized fabric which folds with a flick of the wrist.

Wow...

You guys are out of my league. I went to the local auto parts store and got a neat, shiny windshield sunvisor. The package was convincing: insulated against UV and reflective. It is not a perfect fit-- some of the base of the dash shows and it is a bit long. But it keeps the interior cool(er), I got it in one trip and it was something like $10.

Do you think I oversimplified? I am a gearhead and spend way too much on things for my toys. But I didn't consider this a crucial issue. Plus with the amount I drive, I figure I will proably mechanically wear out this car before I do cosmetically.

It is a sincere questions. What are the disadvantages to a non-swanky sunvisor?

Hell yes! You oversimplified. Your MB is a like a fine piece of art and only deserves the most expensive and complicated shade there is!

IMO, the primary disadvantage of most visors is that they end up on the floor. Your feet go on the floor. Your feet track dirt/grease/road tar onto the floor. The seat rails have grease, too. All this ends up on the shade, which you then spread to the seats when you put the shade there, and to your clothing (or your friend's clothing) afterwards.

The cheaper shades never have a home. Today they're on the front pass. floor. Tomorrow they're on the back seat, or floor, or shoved into a map pocket or between seat and console (more grease). You always have to move them around to permit passengers to sit in the car, or you have to ask them to close their eyes (watch out!) while you unfold and wedge the shade to the windshield.

These other solutions cost more, but some are always found in the same place, are stored where they don't get exposed to gunk on the floor, and easily deploy without threatening anyone's eyes. I'm not a Mr. Clean kinda guy... just tired of battling with unwieldy shades and comments from the gals in my house when their dresses get soiled.

Besides, some of these gadgets are fun to play with and get lots of admiring comments.

Interesting point of view. I never thought about the gunk factor. The shade I have now rolls up-- not an accordian. I wanted to give it a try and see how it compares to the traditional ones. Also it is light and soft enough to not be unwieldy (or dangerous! )

Thanks for the response.

How about sun blocking for the rear hatch??

For all of you coupe owners, what do you do to block sun and heat from the window in the back hatch? Or is the amount of rays and heat coming in not enough to make a difference?

Since I have leather seats, I ordered the MB sunshade. Probably the best thing I did for the car. After being parked all day in the sun while at work, one can sit in the seat w/o getting burned. I've noticed some of the generic shades in other vehicles in my area. They all seem to curve at the edges which allows sun/heat to get through. Granted, the MB shade is overpriced, but it is a perfect fit for the windshield and really blocks the heat. They're fairly thick for shades. I think the filler is supposed to help absorb heat. Just my .02 worth.

I looked into the sunshade because I find that the center console armrest gets unbearably hot in the sun. I think it wouldn't be as bad if it were made from cloth or leather - but the vinyl really retains the heat.

Ouch, BT

I spent some good $ getting the MB sunshade for the Coupe. It was expensive but well worth it. The fit is perfect.

I keep my windows about 1/2 an inch open and it's so much cooler when I get back in the car.

Another thing, notice that the HU amber display really lights up brighter after a few good hours of exposure to the baking sun.
