Confused

So confused about the lighting situation for my car?
Can you get regular HIDs for my 06 c230 but w/o the bi-x headlamps?
Cuz i thought u can only have sick lights like that w/ the bix lamps. i want some nice *** headlights and am undecided....i bought the silverstars but im bored fromthem already! lol
u guys are all so elite @ the lighting modding i figured id ask u guys!

btw my dads friend owns 5 bodyshops here in nj and hes goin 2 pa to i guess a junkyard and he got me the bix and the command unit for $800 and hes gonna charge me a couple hundred for install.

I guess my questions are....im sorry to be all over, work has been hectic,

1. Do i need to have the bix lamps to have hid on my car or can i do them w/ the regular nonlighting package lamps? And if so what is the difference btwn the 2?

2. what command can i get for my 06 benz? i really like the CLs(my boss has one) .... or are us c-class owners subjected to just one model of navi?

THANKS!

you can retrofit HID's into the halogen housing, but why not just do it right and get the OEM BiX. they look better and you get the same light output for the most part.

if i were you id email steve at Steve@MBenzNL.com for info. you are kinda lucky to find BiX and COMAND in a junk yard. just me, but that's a rare find!

your choice for COMAND is either US spec or Euro Spec.

No, you don't have to have BI-X lamps to get HID/Xenon lights. You have 3 options: 1) Buy an aftermarket set of H7 HID/xenon bulbs to add to your current stock assemblies, 2) Buy a pre-'03 set of regular HID/Xenon assemblies (keep in mind, the headlight lenses were frosted, not clear like your current halogen setup on 2005 and up), 3) Get Bi-x.

Now, considering that you said someone can hook you up with BI-X and Comand for $800 and $200 for install, that's an absolute STEAL! Do it. Find out how to get the money and do it. No questions asked. There's no reason for you to consider anything else. Aftermarket HID/Xenon set (including bulbs and ballasts) will run you anywhere from $250-$500, Set of pre '03 OEM Xenon headlight assemblies would probably be even more than that. At that point, if I were you, I'd pay the easy 1G (1,000) and be done with it AND get NAV. That's a bargain and a half!

Not sure if the '06 is different from '05, but if it is the same as '05, you have no choice but to get the C-Class comand (if you're talking about OEM). '05 is on a different system than MY '04.5 and prior.

Yeah, legistically speaking, you could hook up an aftermarket HID kit (H7 bulbs) to your existing halogen headlamp assemblies, but I'd go with BI-X over that. With the BI-X, you don't have to worry about wiring in the ballasts separately.

They sell aftermarket HID Kits allover the internet and I'm sure even some of our sponsors could get you a good aftermarket kit. The thing is, if money isn't an issue, then why would there even be a question of getting BI-X. Bi-x looks better and gives great light output. Remember, the reason this is bi-x and not just regular projector HID/Xenon is due to the projector having a lid that allows the angle of the headlight beam to be pointed in a different angle (as well as a secondary H7 halogen bulb) for the brights.

I stated above that you could find an aftermarket HID kit for anywhere between $250 - $500 (sometimes even up to $800 depending on how high the rating of the xenon bulb is - i.e. 4000k, 5000k, 6000k, up to 10000k or more).

Now, I state one more time, if money is NOT the issue, I would choose bi-x NO QUESTION.

you will need to set the cars computer to xenon present.

Well, if the ones from the junkyard will have the lamps and bulbs included (which really doesn't make that much sense), go with Steve (MBenzNL).

No matter what, I would exhaust all my options going for bi-x first before resorting to doing any kind of conversion. you've got an '06, so if you can afford it from Steve (can't remember what he charges), I'd go that route first. If that's not realistic for you, go the HID conversion route with an aftermarket HID kit (H7 bulb kit). I can't tell you for sure which of the sponsors will be able to get them, but I'd hit them all up just to see.

Exactly and keep in mind that the cars computer needs accessed through Star Diagnose (it's the only way).

arthur, if you are still doing any of the mods you wanted with me in my NJ trip, then I can set the computer the xenon present at the same time.
