am encountering similar with my Audio 10, though not yet with the changer.
am experimenting with different laser strength settings, buffer settings,
write speeds, as well as silent gap spacings etc trying to isolate the cause
for this problem.

Happens to me too. 2005 C230K. The single CD player in the dash doesn't seem to suffer from this problem ... only the 6-dsic changer in the glove. I've had a similar problem occur with my 99 ML320 6-disc, but that was diagnosed as "failed laser".

we've found benz changers don't like burned discs or even foreign cd's. Here's a bit from a bulletin:
32/01-2 Group 82.64 - ALL MODELS, USE OF NON COMMERCIAL COMPACT DISCS IN MBUSA CD CHANGERS AND CD PLAYERS: Programmable Compact Discs such as CD-R and CD-RW may not play back correctly in MBUSA CD Players. For complaints related to playback of CD-R and CD-RW audio CD's in MBUSA CD Players, verify correct operation of CD Player with a Commercial Compact Disc. Due to variations in CD-R and CD-RW media and technical inconsistencies in programming a CD-R or CD-RW Compact Disc, MBUSA does not support their use in MBUSA CD Players. Do not replace any parts for this issue.
'05 and later comands that play mp3's haven't had too many problems over this

the cd changer in the glove box sucks. i burn cd's and sometimes it reads the cd and sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it takes a long time to just read the cd. the stereo in the dash reads the burned cd all the time.

I have the same problem but I find myself using the dash CD more than the changer anyway, the dash CD is less picky...is there any way to make the stock system play MP3 cds?

When people say they have burned a CD at a slower speed and they have found better results, it's always a CD media issue. Depending on what CD media you have bought (Fujifilm, Memorex, Maxell, etc), your results on a successful burn will vary. These huge companies do not make their own CD-Rs, but buy them from companies like Ritek, CMC Magnetics, Taiyo Yuden, etc and brand their logo on top of the CD-R to call it theirs.
I've run plenty of disc quality scans and diagnostics then compared them after my burn with different media and noticed a few things. I can burn Taiyo Yudens at 40x without any C2 errors or disc quality errors. Better media == flawless faster burns. I cannot burn CMC Magnetics at 40x or I will result in C2 erros and plenty of bad sectors, so I must burn this media at 24x max.
I have had my run-in with all sorts of media and the best ones that I have burned have been the Taiyo Yuden brand. Probably the easiest place to get Taiyo Yudens are from Best Buy. Look for the Fujifilm spindle that has been made in Japan and not Taiwan. I believe the ones made in Taiwan are from CMC Magenetics and those are pretty low quality.
Anyways, just to give relevance to my post, I have burnt CD-Rs on both Taiyo Yudens (Fujifilms) and CMC Magentics (Memorex) and even with both flawless discs, I still get pauses/cutouts during playback on my changer. I still have yet to buy Ritek CD-Rs and give them a whirl, but when I do, I'll be sure to post an update.
I would recommend visiting the link below and testing out one of your burnt CD-Rs to identify what kind of CD-R brand you have. Because if you're like me and love high quality burning, you will figure out what brand you have so you don't burn too fast and have a resulting crackling audio near the end of the CD or during bad sector burns.

I have 2004 C230K with changer in glove compartment. I've listened to both CDs I burned myself and ones bought at street fairs that were 'homebrewed'. Haven't had a problem yet with any of them. I burn off a Mac if that makes any difference and use Sony CD-Rs.
