Hello, first post. Awesome site, so much information.

Ok I have done a lot of research for the past month or so. I am looking for a SL/CL/CLK style front grill from my SC. I know that std SL/CL/CLK ones don't fit and that no one makes an aftermarket one for the SC.

I have decided that I am going to have to modify one to fit, a dremel, fibre glass, black chrome paint and some imagination. Now what I would like to know is what stops the std/after market ones from fitting and what one would be the most similar shape and easiest to mod?

Also while i am here, i would like to change the lower plastic grills to a mesh ones. ANyone know where to get them. I'm from Scotland BTW but don't mind paying postage.

you can install a CLK W209 grill but it will require some dremmeling (sp?)

yeah I thought about modifying a CLK grill, but I dont really know how? maybe trim it down and sand it down and then regloss it!?

I've got the 05 Evo Grill, which I do like but I think the star is too small and there is too much silver. My car is black.

I am quite good at modding things myself, so hopefully should not be too hard for me. Was just hoping to find the one that was easiest to mod.

One thing i am not sure about is the top chrome bit that is attached to the bonnet, if i take that away is there something behind it that will look silly?

Its pretty hard to find someone who makes an AMG style mesh for non-AMG bumpers. The main problem is that the fog light is much larger than the hole it is visible through.

There are a number of companies that make security stainless steel welded mesh which looks exactly like AMG mesh when it is powder coated (usually sold as black) but the thing is that it is amazingly strong and very hard to bend into shape.

Youre in over your head this time. The trimless grilles, like the SL and clk, require you to cut and dremmel parts of the hood off. Not just a little, a lot.

Theres folded metal brackets that are part of the hood structure. It will look awful. Feel free to try, but youre going to be really unhappy with the work required, and the unfinished look.

Looks like dealers still stock the part. I imagine they will be for a while, as this part gets would often get damaged in collisions.
