Hey gang,

Just posted this message in the AMG section, and was told to come over here as therw would be more people that could field the question.

Anyhow, I'm looking to replace my HID bulbs with either a 6000K or 8000K set.

I've heard good things about both McCullough and Vision Bulbs. I'm considering the latter as the price is better, and I've read only good things about them.

At Vision, they're asking $109, and they're offering a 2 year warranty.

Has anyone tried these bulbs, or do they know anything about these guys? A friend of mine bought a pair of their Silver Xtreme bulbs a while back and says they're great.

Please let me know. Thanks a lot!

Im getting Hid's myself soon and I have come to the conclusion that to not go any higher than 6000k. 8000k is just going more for the color and like everyone says, "it will lower your visibility when its wet out.

Usually I say "STF" and still do to get all the details to your questions....but since I can see you got misdirected by some telling you to post here, I'll give you a hand...

Aftermarket HID setups are pretty universal and doesn't really matter if there going into an AMG or a Yugo (given both cars would have the same type bulb, i.e. H7).

You got me confused though, do you already have an HID setup (ballasts, bulbs, etc) and want to change color (kelvin) range ? or are you just wanting to change out the OEM bulbs for the "fake HID" look ?

My 2'cents are to do the full conversion. I'm running 6k McCullough's HID's and they provide a nice mix of a very light blue tint with great light output..

Either way, do a general search in all the forums and even places like eBay just to get some pictures to see how the light color varies dependent on the kelvin range..

I prefer the crystal blue 8k look, 2 companies I would prefer is Blue Xion or Xenith, 2 very dependable HID companies I recommend to everyone. If your interested PM me and I can give you the info about them. I used both Blue Xion and Xenith, and both offered me great service!

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

I'm looking only to replace the bulbs. I already have the car fit with HID.

I'm just reading some info on the Vision Bulbs product right now. Based on the web site and the reviews I'm reading, I think I'm leaning more toward them than McCullough.

I'll let you guys know what I decide.

Thanks again!

I agree, the 6000K does look awesome! Gives you that clean white look with a slight touch of blue. I think I'm going for 6000K as well!

Thanks buddy!

Thanks for the info. I've already done some serious process of elimination, and I'm down to McCullough and Vision Bulbs.

Think I'm leaning towards Vision Bulbs as I'm only hearing good things. Hell, for $109, I think I'm going with them.

I'll let you guys know what I decide and I'll send pics when I get them installed.

Here's the link that I recommend everyone who's interested in HID or wants to know more about it. It's considered the holy bible in the HID community.

Its this true guys? :
"Please note: most customers have a common misconception that the higher the K (Kelvin temperature) the brighter it gets, but in fact, it is the opposite. The K rating is inversely proportional to the light output, therefore the lower the K the brighter the light output. Also Xenon runs cooler and than your traditional halogen, therefore it will not melt your housing."

I also thinked that way
So, the OEM BIX are 4100k but they say that the 5000k are the ones that give us better visibility in country roads?

I'm thinking buying a HID kit for my jag, but I don't know the color temp to choose.

I hear that's true too. I actually decided today to make the purchase from Vision Bulbs, and I went with the 6000K.

Can't wait to get them!

Kelvin temperature should not be used when judging light output.Light output is measured in lumens.

Can xenon setup be put in if you dont have the projector lights....for example can i put xenons (im aware of the ballast and everything) into the regular halogen setup on the c230...can the same thing be done iwth the fog lights?

yes. a retrofit kit can be used to install xenon into your reflector lens. i would spend the extra $$$ and get the bix.

There are many kits, none of them have even come close to meeting the specifications of FMVSS 108. The reflector in Halogen housings is not correct for HID. Even with new bases on the lamps, the light source is not in the right position.

Save your coin to get the proper housings and lamps. MBenzNL.com is a trusted source for the Bi-Xenon lamps for a ton less than the dealer.

The kits that replace the halogen lamps are like putting lipstick on a pig. It does not look good, and the pig doesn't like it.

If your goal is just to get some general ideas on color vs. light output (what most people care about), Kelvin numbers work fine...

If though you want to compare one 6k kit to another or say OEM lights to xenons...calculating the difference by way of lumen measurements would be the way to go..

Agreed. 8000k is too blue. 6000K phillips ultinons rule I would never run anything over 6000k.

Dude your gonna flip out when you see it with your own eyes.. They are so *** bright unlike what you would read from some of these cut n paste chart people about kelvin blah blah blah.(read all that years ago) and how you cannot see well .. I agree about the halogen blue bulbs etc. but not hid.. The light from 6000k will have a nice purpleish brite white light and best of all at the top of the beam pattern there will be a thick dark purple band.. they are outrageous bulbs. If youn want color and brightness there is no other !I have said this before that anyone who as actually tried an actual phillips 6000k Ultinon D2S (PROJECTOR STYLE)will be hooked period.
