help !!! c200 kompressor wont start

hello,
I am new to this forum. can anyone please help me? i just recently purchased a c200 kompressor coupe '01 model. the car drives like a dream and is a looker! however after using it for two weeks, one problem came up. i couldnt get it started. i could unlock and lock the car with the remote but thats all it could do. when i put the electronic key in the hole, the only thing it does is unlock the steering lock, light all the instruments . after the no. 2 position, it wouldnt crank the starter!! it happened before when i went to a nearby friends house. it started after 10 to 15 times. but today , it would not crank at all.. nada! nothing. i am thinking of getting a electric wire and hook it up to the positive terminal of the car battery and connect it straight to the starter positive wire. am hoping that if it starts, then the problem could be that the starter is not receiving any voltage to make it turn. i hope somebody can help me with this problem. thank you in advance to the cool people in this org.

Dont try and force start it for one. It could be just a relay or a bad connection. It could also be a sensor in the engine. Nothing you can do about it other than take it to a specialist with a DIAGNOSTIC or a dealer with the same. The car generally tells you what the faults are and its impossible to guess given the sophistication of the startup system and security.

c200 starting problems

hi benzmodz,
thanks for the response. your advice was helpful but i was thinking of unplugging the voltage supply wire to the starter motor and connect the starters positive terminal directly to the battery positive terminal. this way i can determine if the starter motor is still operational. with this situation , i can or i might as well check that the supply wire, if indeed is giving voltage to the starter motor . i think i might be able to do that without endangering or messing up the entire electrical sytem . after all, that same supply wire is unplugged therefore leaving no electric connection to the system.what do you think? should i go for it or bring it straight to the CASA?(house of repair) tnx again!!!!

hi bing,
well eventually i think that is what i am going to do. the problem is, my car wont start. wont even turn the starter motor. the batteries are good but it still doesnt want to crank. i want to know more or less what is going to be done in the shop before i bring it in. i do not want to be surprised. i would like to follow the suggestion of benzmodz to check the relays as it could be the culprit but the manual that goes with the car does not detail where or what relay to check at. still searching in the dark.......... hope somebody can help me..... dont want to bring it in just yet.... got to find out first whats wrong with it.... anybody want to help a newbie?

wont start

finally i got the car to start. IT WAS THE RELAY LOCATED IN THE fuse box IN THE ENGINE BAY, now the car starts in one click! figured the relays get tired and wont click even with power from the ignition switch. all i did was to take out the relay and put positive and negative voltage on the no. 85 and 86 of the relay and click it for 10 times and it worked!!! just saved me quite a lot of money if i did bring it in the shop!!! merry xmas to my pocket!!!

hi bing,
yes replacing the relay was the first thing i did when i got it started. the electrical system of the benz seems so complicated at first but i think common sense and the need to cut down on expenses prevailed on me. as i said earlier, merry xmas to my pocket. LOL!

May I know how do I replace the relay of my c200? It is just unplug the old one and plug in the new relay? Please advise. Thanks for your time.

Always check fuse 52 first in a no crank situation. It is underated at 15amps & Benz put out a DTB to increase to 20 amps. It frequently blows giving you no crank.

Starter relay is in cavity S of the front SAM & is plug & play. Just plug in a new one.

Usually there is a folded up fuse chart in the interior fuse box location.
