Hey that's pretty good Lynn. Now we all know where to go for a Holiday..
I looked at a C230K over there last summer and it was 110,000,000,000 Lira.

its like how hypertech programs the Ford's and Chevy cars. they use the port that the OBD tool uses to diagnose the car, to read/erase/reprogram the settings of the ECU. With the Hypertech it takes all of above 15 minutes to do.

A firmware upgrade would set all parameters back to default IF it replaced the whole code. Most of the time in cases where there is unit specific data that has to be left in place the code is downloaded from the ECU and only the parts that are upgraded are changed leaving the rest of the data alone and it is reinstalled to the chip. They just edit the lines that are to be upgraded and reburn it.

I'll give you an example: in my '98 Volvo GLT (LPT) there was an ECU glitch that resulted in abrupt RPM drops (sometimes the engine would stall) following hard stops. That was cured by an ECU reflash done by the dealer - obviously, some remapping had been necessary to correct that behavior. That would have overriden any aftermarket code. Plus, regardless, they may as well check the CRC on the existing code (a common way to test its integrity - that's what I would do, anyway) and if it differs from what it is supposed to be, they will likely reflash the whole thing.

No self respecting manufacturer or tuner would dare post dyno results, that might work against a manufacturer/tuner that can't deliver on promises like SVT with last year's Cobra. Oh, that's right, SVT was published in 12 publications, so it doesn't need to make any HP claims, people buy the Cobra just on the name alone, NOT. How can you buy a product that supposed to increase power when it hasn't been proven that it does? I guess I'll wait for a few people to get it and dyno it themselves and see if it really works. In the meantime I'll just put the cell phone booster sticker on my ECU, if it increases power in my cell phone it should work for my car too.

I don't know that it will, but if done the right way (download and modify only changed data) it will keep the mod. Otherwise Renntech will have to reflash it with the new code included.

Where the hell do you get that from? Check the Renntech web site. I see nothing about off road usage.

It's not on their warranty, it's in their disclaimer on their sales agreement. Here it is -
Selected modifications and performance items are legal for off-road or racing applications only. RENNtech cannot assume liability for the legality of modifications that would void the factory warranty or specifications as required by the DOT-EPA or any other regulating agencies.
I would be happy to forward the e-mail they sent me regarding this if it's of any interest to you. It was only of interest to me because some have said that the main reason for getting a Renntech product is the warranty, so I had to see for myself. Trust but verify! Hey, I violate many traffic laws on a regular basis. Some say it's only illegal if you get caught
But in reality you are only a criminal if you get convicted.
