Issues with CD player on '02 Coupe

I got a Audio10 cd player from Ebay and I'm having a problem. I followed the install post and everything went fine. Hit the power button and the head unit plays. Here's the strange part - It always plays with the car off. If I turn the head unit off and the car off, then start the car, I don't get any sound sometimes. I also have a strange message on the mutifunction display. On the "phone" screen, it says "no remote". Any ideas?

---------------------
Update - If the "phone" screen says "no remote", that is when there is no sound from the head unit. Also, if I turn on the radio before I start the car, it works fine everytime (well, in the last hour or so). While the starter is running, the radio mutes and the "no remote" message comes on.

99 E320
that's a headscratcher for me. i can run my Audio 10 (99 E320) when ignition
is off. when radio on...and i turn ignition off, radio turns off. then, when i
press the radio off/on button, it cycles on/off . no big. i just need to remember
that when running the radio with ignition off, to turn the radio off when exiting.

but insofar as the strangeness with your unit, i'm at a loss. have not encountered
that (those) before with my unit.

afterthought: how about pulling the fuse to the radio and waiting a bit,
then reinstall? wonder if this is a resetting ideosyncracy? MB radios seem
picky for some reason, as well as that horribly designed CD changer. be
sure the radio is OFF before disconnecting power...just for the hell of it.
have read reports which seem to indicate that some of the head units
less tolerant of power disconnect while radio is still powered ON .

when you say it plays with car off.... do you mean you can turn it on and off with the key out of ignition? or do you shut off the car and radio keeps playing continually afterwards?

After using the new radio for a day, here's the deal. It turns on and off like it should. What seems to be the problem but it doesn't happen everytime. If I have the radio off when I start the car, sometimes the system thinks that I have a phone on and it mutes the audio output from the head unit. If the radio is muted in this manner, the "phone" screen has a message "no remote". I do not have a phone in the car nor is there a phone kit in the car.

Yah... Outland is right. Make sure you post the results back up here so it can help someone who falls in the same situation. Good luck

Here's the deal. When you get a head unit from another car, it remembers how it was set-up in the first car it was in. I guree the person that had my CD headunit, had a phone in the car, so it keeps looking for the phone (or thinks I am on a call). I'll get it fixed sometime this week. Thanks for the replys.
