Any advantage of using staggered wheels ?

I will like to know the plus points of having staggered wheels ? Does it give better road handling ? I am currently having 18" all round of the same size but will like to have them staggered with different sizes between the front and rear. Any advice is appreciated.

Potentially improves stability and reduces oversteer... but for the most part I think people just do it to get a fatter lip in the back.

Apart from the physical looks, does it really help in terms of road handling ? Isn't having a pair of wider rims at the rear will require additional power in terms of acceleration due to the extra weight from the rims as well as the tyres ?

If you drove you car hard enough, like on a track, you would be able to notice a difference in handling. If you car has enough power, having wider tires in the back will also help put that power to the ground and help accelaration.

Staggered wheels also afford more secure handling even in normal driving situations (curvy back road at moderate speeds, for example).

The aesthetic advantages have been well documented so I will not beat that dead horse!

So insteading of swapping my rear rims to 18" 9.5 offset, can I insert spacers 0.75" thick on my rear rims which is 18" 8.5 offset ? Does this help ? Besides, how safe are spacers ?

Normally i will avoid spacer, 8.5 and 9.5 are not offset, they are the width of the wheels. Offset usually start with ET..(24, 30, 32, etc)

The 8.5 and 9.5 are a function of width which is totally independent of offset. The 3/4" spacer would need to be hubcentric, and include longer studs

i had a older set of wheels that got really messed up..the lips got dented really bad and had to buy a new set of wheels....is it true that sometimes with bigger lips...they tend to get dented easier...i mean...they obviously look better...but is it true about the dent?
