What menu items on the MB Star Diagnostic system do you select to remove the "NO PHONE" message? I asked my dealer to do this but they never heard of it before.

Buell, I seem to remember there's been a post to this effect - do a search. Or maybe I'm wrong....but my dealer BETTER know how to turn it off; no need to rub in the fact that I went cheap. No leather, no COMAND, no PHONE...but - pssst!

Heck, I got C7 and C2. And it's a little baby Mercedes!

No No Phone message

I know it can be done, mine was, I still have the service record if necessary.

But, this is where I believe the menu to exist, not 100% on that tho.

rrf

Good Luck,
.....

StarDiagnostics menu, follows
From a different forum.......
This guy was interested in deleting the No Phone message
(as was done successfully on my car), apparently TeleAid is in "same" software location....

------------------------------------------

According to my local dealer, In stardiagnosis :-

Control Units -> Info. and comms. -> ICM -> Control Unit Adaptations -> Version Coding -> Optional Equipment

In the optional equipment menu you can set the following
to present or not-present depending on what you have

AUDIO, Tele-aid, Cellular Telephone, Trip Computer, Navigation

He beleives that turns on and off different menus.

Hey young, at least you have the alarm button (that is alarm right?), I only have two! The lock button and the ESP one My friends always comment on that "hey, how come you have fewer buttons than me?" .. damn it makes me feel cheap!

And I hate how MB makes their buttons. They are so hard to use! The ones that look like they are to be pressed are actually switches; ones that look like a switch (like the W/S button) is actually a button. Such HORRID design.

I don't know how they did it, but they got it cleared out of mine somehow. As long as we're bragging about being cheap, I think I might have the only coupe that is a completely base car with no options. Funny thing is, that is why I bought this car-I wanted a coupe with no sunroof, cloth seats, and 6 sp. I would have gotten the C7 package if I had known about the shifter, but I like the look of the stock wheels better. The car is a great deal unless you start piling on the options, then it becomes much less of a good deal in my opinion.

I think there might be two issues here... I recall that originally there was a red "No Phone" fault message that appeared (I remember seeing it on the demo car I looked at in 8/2001). This issue was fixed with a software upgrade and it was not a problem on my car, which was a 9/01 delivery. As for pushing the actual phone button and getting the message... well, not sure. Based on the above information it sounds like you might be able to get rid of it.

Bos is right. Which "no phone" message are we talking about?

we're talking about the NO PHONE screen as you scroll up/down thru the different computer screens in the dash. i gave the mb technician the instructions posted by rrf and they got rid of it for me.

vyse, that is the tow away switch. i think you need to toggle it off while you're being towed or the alarm will go off.

to be fair, a couple of those buttons, we can't get: rear sunshade and parktronic.

after installing my audio 10, sometimes my display reads "NO REMOTE" when you cycle through the menus... other times it reads "NO PHONE". i'm not sure what remote it's talking about or what conditions cause which message to occur, but it's still odd. not really a major issue, though.

Sometimes I wish had ordered the heated seats. Although I think this is more a desire to have functional buttons, instead of blank switches that scream "cheapskate!" rather than a burning desire for a warm butt. I didn't order them because here in California I only use the heater about 2 months out of the year.

Cheers, BT

UPDATE:

I took the car to the dealer for a similar problem (No Tele-Aid message). The tech told me it could not be removed. I promptly handed him the instructions that KLEEMANN gave me...it's now gone. What a change in the tech once I gave him the paper I printed out.

I though about buying a blank button and then silk screen on some cool icons like ejector seat, smoke screen, license plate changer or using it for something real like NO2.

Richard from UK first posted the instructions:
in STAR Diagnosis
Control Units -> Info. and comms. -> ICM -> Control Unit Adaptations -> Version Coding -> Optional Equipment

In the optional equipment menu you can set the following
to present or not-present depending on what you have

AUDIO, Tele-aid, Cellular Telephone, Trip Computer, Navigation

Kleemann posted/confirmed the instructions later.

The mechanic tried to follow those menu items but he said it wasn't there, it was in a totally different place. It's gone now. He also set my radio options for the audio 10 but it didn't make a difference (I was hoping the AM tuned in normal, not that I listen to it).
