Yeh, go ask for inverted torx sockets and get the same response...I did. Kragen sells 'em though in a set for less than 20 bucks...but doubtful they even know it...
Ok back to oil.

0-40 M1 is what I run. But you can use other grades and brands according to the booklet supplied with the car...

Yea, just make sure that on the back, it says "MBZ 229.5 SPEC" which means that it meets Mercedes Specifications on the oil.

Boy this sure was an entertaining thread...I guess STFF is good for something.
So from what I gathered so far...since my dealer used a filter with part number 271-180-00-09 (non fleece) then dumped 8qts of Mobil 1 10W40 in there on my last oil change....then it is not too bad??

However, the preferred/recommend combo is a fleece filter (000 180 26 09) with 0w-40 correct?

Which effect pisses me off because they "sell" you on the you won't need another oil change for 12k miles, but then don't put in the parts to make that happen....sunza-byches!!!

Ahhh gets even better...so I called parts. They don't have the fleece version only the non-fleece. And of course he had no idea what I was I talking about when I said fleece. LOL

Ok I have always used 10w-30 but your thread says not to. What do I use and how much then? I drive a 03 kempressor with 80k mikes.

Of particular interest is this information, contained within the link:

some oils which are not recommended:
Mobil 1 SuperSyn 0W-30 SL/SJ/CF A1/B1/A5 9.7 doesn't meet 229.1 nor ACEA A2 or A3
Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5W-30 SL/SJ/CF A1/B1/A5 9.8 doesn't meet 229.1 nor ACEA A2 or A3
Mobil 1 SuperSyn 10W-30 SL/SJ/CF A1/B1/A5 10.1 doesn't meet 229.1 nor ACEA A2 or A3
These 3 oils do not meet MB spec of > 3.5 cP for high temperature high shear strength.

It is possible to use either the Mobil 1 5W-30 or the Mobil1 10W-30. While it is possible to use those oils, those oils do not satisfy the requirements MB defined for your vehicle.

An alternative option would be to utilize an oil that satifies the requirements defined by MB. For MY '98 through MY '04 vehicles, those require sheet 229.3 oils, but may use 229.5 oils, but those require the fleece filter. One oil that satisfies the MB 229.5 standard is Mobil1 0W-40.
