Installing CLK seats? Is it plausible?

My father has a 2005 CLK350, and after riding in it, I found that they were extremely more supportive than the seats in the W203, paticularly in the side bolsters. How plausible would it be to attempt a seat swap? They'd fit without any problems, right? And how much can I expect to pay for a set with memory-power and heating functions? I don't mind if they're used. Oh, and where should I look, aside from calling up my local MB dealer and asking for a brand new set? Any help would be so much appreciated! Thanks!

The CLK is actually a C-Class car. They should bolt in no problems. A set thru your dealer will be pretty pricey. Try Steve, or a reclaimer.

Yeah, I might try Steve... good idea. And yes, I assumed that since they were the same platform, they'd fit. But how costly would it be to install them, with heating, power and memory functions needing to be wired right? Is it complicated, or no? And I assume it'd affect the warranty in some way, right? So if electrical problems occur after the install/swap, do I just have to pay for repairs out of pocket?

Youre likely not going to get off cheap, but this crap is all plug and play. You'll likely need the CLK master switch panel. See Carlos' C32AMG Coupe thread for the PN#

They are not coupe seats, so they will not allow access to the back seat like a CLK or C coupe seat would. Our seats lift in the back to allow easy access to the back seat area.

What year is your w203? 2005 seats are not compatable unless you rewire the seats if you are doing a 2005 to a pre 05 conversion or vice versa. Black seats are not too hard to find but remember there are many shades of gray (ASH) available so it will not match if you don't get the same year.

As for bolting right in, I am not too sure. The frame should be the same. I know the seat bottom and seat back would bolt right into your current seat frame.

No, no, you were right. It's for a sedan. And yeah, I've considered AMG C55 seats, but there are two issues I have with that.

1. They'd be way more expensive than CLK seats.

2. They'd have the little AMG badges on the front, and since I don't drive a C55, I'd feel weird about it.

I've sat in C55 seats, and they do feel better than CLK seats, and obviously much much better than stock C230 seats. But CLK seats I think offer enough of an improvement in support that I'd be happy with. The side-bolsters are much much more supportive.

I have a 2006 C230, and I want to swap my seats out for either 2005 or 2006 CLK seats. 2005 and 2006 CLK seats are identical, right? I checked them out, and they seemed the same... no changes. So they should fit into my C230 without any problems, right?

btw, I tried contacting MB dealers for info, and no one's responded yet. I've found it's kinda hard to come up with info about this seemingly easy swap. Any ideas?

I know this may be a bit extreme... and I don't know what a CLK costs in the USA compared to a C class. But would it be plausible for you to sell the w203 and buy a CLK?

Here in Australia a 2006 CLK would cost about $40,000-$45,000 and a 2006 w203 about $30,000-$35,000. Both entry level with average KM.

Australia is weird haha. My car ran me around 4.8k and seats from a clk cost about 300 per seat so yeah no point to me haha... More importantly I just want to know the dimensions of the holes on the brackets for the clk. From an 03 to a 09 and same goes from a 98 to a 02

Perhaps our average income is higher here in Australia. We seem to pay more for everything. Not just cars.

I know this is off topic, but what is the average wage in the USA according to your government reports?

Average full-time earnings in Australia were $64,641 per annum in 2010. (According to the Bureau of Statistics.)

So perhaps we are just getting ripped off

funnily enough, the cheapest beer I've ever bought was in the West Australian Parliament Members lounge. . You pretty much need to be an elected member or a guest to buy it. *sigh*

U can get a clk for about what you can get a c class for of the same body, just may be more expensive if there the same year.

What is on CLK seats that makes them nicer? I sat in a CLK seat didn't seem to diff from my 203 seat

It would probably be cheaper to get Recaros in. All of the creature comforts would not be available, but you'd have much better seats, not to mention they'd be brand new too.

You just get ripped off like SA. US average wages are higher than Australia. Class for class. They also operate on a lot more credit!

BTW - The CLK seats are far better than standard C Class.

Glyn, you always know the answers to my crazy questions. Do you know if the clk brackets will fit on the w203? The clk of 03 to 09?
