Cool Inexpensive brake job...!

FYI - Auto Zone sells W203 lifetime warranteed front brake pads for $24.99 and rotors for $39.99 each.

I know this will draw fire from some, but let me say: I don't give a crap. I am simply providing information, not making recommendations.

Yeah, exactly. But for $24.99 I'm not complaining. They're semi-metallic, they have a slot for the wear sensor, and they are quiet - therefore, I'm not complaining!

Besides that, total time for the job was under an hour! All you need is a 14mm socket, a C-clamp, and the stuff that's already in your trunk!

How much brake dust do they produce? Does it say what the semi-metalic compound is?

I can't answer either yet.
Dust seems to be pretty low just in a couple of days.

I purchased lifetime warranty pads from Napa before and hated them on my W201, just didn't have the smooth feel the factory pads had and didn't seem to stop as well. On the Napa pads, the warranty kicks in when you bring them back the pads with less than 1/16th" of pad left, something that's scary to do because your inside pads wears out first, so if you check your brakes like me by looking at the outside pad and wait for that to get to 1/16" then the inside pad may already be metal to metal.

Did the pads have the hole for sensor?

I don't work there, so you'd just have to call them or check online. I didn't buy rotors, so I dunno.

Buell - yep, they have a cutout

Two months later.... these pads are remarkable low-dust and perform very well.

MUCH better pads than OEM in both regards!

RedC230K:

I am looking 2 replace the front pads on my C320. I was curious about the pads you got from Autozone. Were those DURALAST ALBANY Brake Pads? Also, do you remember the grease they recommended.

Thanks.

I don't think he had the Big Brake upgrade. That didn't happen until the 2004.5 models. I'm almost positive the Autozone pads are for the standard rotors.

I got a quote from the dealer before I bought the car.

To replace the front, rear, pads, and rotors, on a 2005 C230 Sport with the 13.6 inch brakes up front will cost around $1500 with labor.

They're expensive brakes. I don't know how some people go through them in only 25k miles. Since the front brake surfaces have such a large surface area.

I didn't know that drilled rotors could be resurfaced. I thought they couldn't.

It's normally not recommended because they are cross-drilled and re-surfacing theoretically could compromise the strength of the rotors, but...I'm pretty sure there are a few people on here who have turned the cross-drilled rotors already.

..wierd.
I wonder if the rotors warp easy. ?

Carquest has brake rotors for late model civic's for about $15 a piece wich is only .86 cents more than resurfacing them..
