Interesting consumption problem - PRO's needed
I have an interesting problem and couldn't cope with it in the last 6 months time. I'm about to get crazy, cause I can't stop this car consuming madly.
So I need some opinions under the circumstances below, any help is desperately appreciated:
1) The car is a 2001 C-Class C200 Kompressor Sportscoupe at 85.000 km's and it has no faults displayed when connected to the computer at my dealers service. (DAS) I guess all of the consumption related parts have changed till we get this point. A/F Sensor, temperature sensors, harnessing cables, air mass meter, fuel pump, etc etc.
2) And I'm not driving this car at high RPM's. I measured the consumption many times both city and highway driving. In the highway the car's range with one tank full is 800km. That's a perfect result for me. Now watch this, in the city driving the range falls to 300km's with one tank. It's nearly 2.5 times lower than highway.
Any ideas to solve this problem? I don't want to sell the car. Help me please. I spent many evenings in my dealers service shop and I'm really exhausted...

What kind of failure or problem can affect the car consuming the fuel madly in the city driving, but consuming normal amount on the highway? For example 14mpg city, 35mpg highway.
Can it be related with the transmission? or gas pedal? or injectors? or cylinder heads?

14 around the city is low but depending on driving conditions and style could not be out of the question. I'm assuming there's been a big change that's prompting you to find an answer? With the DAS readings all OK it would only be a guess by anyone.....so....list all the parts that have been replaced or cleaned and maybe someone will come up with an answer. I'm also assuming that the car feels like it runs OK.

Here are some tips I found at Edmunds.com:
Drive with mileage in mind. Don't speed up just to slow down. If you lean on the accelerator when the light turns green, then again on the brake one street down, you're hurting both your car and your gas mileage. Instead, go lightly on the accelerator and coast where possible. If you're bumper-to-bumper, improve your fuel economy by slipping the car into neutral instead of constantly riding the brake. (This doesn't apply to hybrids which typically shut off the gas engine when stopped in traffic.) And don't try to get around the city on less than a quarter tank. Not only are city gas stations expensive, they're hard to find.
Pick a lane and stick to it. Believe it or not, changing lanes frequently will get you there only a few seconds earlier, while greatly increasing your chance of a collision.
Replace your air filter often. City driving means smog and soot. Your air filter protects you and your occupants from breathing the worst of the fumes and the particulates they carry. By the time some stranger has written "Wash Me" on your rear windshield, it's already too late for your lungs.

The current mileage is as follows:

11 mpg - 20 litres/100km - 300 km with full tank
(highway)
22 mpg - 11 litres/100km - 700 km with full tank
I'm looking for a problem that could increase the fuel consumption abnormally specially on lower gears? I mean, maybe something is faulty related with city driving? Lower gears? Overheating? Gas Pedal sensitivity? Kompressor activity? Warmup delay?

Have you checked:
Tires - under-inflated?
Fuel - what grade are you using?
Carrying extra loads in the car?
Your highway consumption seems a little high too. I get about 6-7 l/100km for highways. Yours is a C200 so it shouldn't be too different in consumption from mine. My city driving is 11-12 l/100km but sometimes it goes up to 15-16 l/100km in very heavy traffic.
