2006 C280 4Matic
Cool I Joined the Club!!!

After much debate, I decided to join the Mercedes club!

I'm the proud new owner of a 2006 C280 4Motion. It's a dealer demo with only 2,088 miles on it. I got it for $33,000. It is 4 months old (went into dealer service on 1/10/06) and looks like brand new. The original sticker was $39,000. I'm picking it up next Friday (can't wait!!).

I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping you can help me out with.

1. To me, $33,000 seems like a great deal. Would you agree?? The car is Pewter with black interior (leather inserts). It has the sunroof package, garage door opener, autodimming driver & rear view mirror, rain sensor, power rear sunshade, cell phone prewiring, and the 6 disc changer.

2. Would you recommend the stone guard plastic adhesive on the paint?? They want $900 extra to treat the hood and the nose . I'm guessing that I can get it cheaper elsewhere. Does anyone have this? Is it any good??

Now I just need to make it through the next 5 days until I pick up my baby!!

a quarter mile at a time
heh. It's 4-Matic.

1 - If the deal is done, don't worry about the price anymore. Pewter with the Black is a good combo, nice contrast. Enjoy your ride.

2 - There has been a lot of discussion about the 3M protection. It will most likely be $500-$600 if you go straight to the shop that will be applying it and not through your dealership.

Congrats on the new car!

I picked up the C2804Matic about a month ago. All I can say is I LOVE IT!! The car rides like a dream. One moth later and I still cant wait to get in and drive it. Great handling, very responsive, smooth ride and a great looker of course. I am very sure you are going to love your new car.

Ha Ha! Yes, 4Matic. The car I traded in was a Passat with 4Motion.

for the stone guard, you can try ebay or stickercity.com, if you want to do it yourself and save. its pretty easy.

The only thing I'm thinking of at this point is the "clear bra". I know I could do the lights myself, but the hood seems like it may be tricky to apply, with all the compound curves, etc.

What are some of the more common mods done to the C??

I'm torn whether or not to do the clear bra. How durable is Mercedes paint? My Passat, which I just trade in, had incredibly durable paint. I had very few chips and I do mostly highway driving. My wife drives an Acura MDX and that paint stinks. It has more deep chips at 20,000 miles than my Passat had at 100,000 miles.

The MB paint aint nothing to write home about...but its better than the Honda barely there paint...most GM vehicles have more durable paint.

BTW, most of the stone chipping comes from hwy driving. At high speeds, even a small stone makes a good size impact...
