Fighting wheel vibration need opinions

I have a slight vibration coming form my front wheels. I have custom 7mm hubcentric front spacers and have had both the wheels rebalanced. I ordered correct wheel centric rings as well because the spacers do not have them, but I do not have them yet. I have not had the car aligned, could that be the cause of the vibration? I really do not know what else to do. Any suggestion? (except go back to stock wheels)

Obviously wait for the rings before you do anything. Describe the vibration.. at what speeds, any variation, when braking, increase/decrease when braking? I'm assuming you feel it in the steering wheel. Have you had your fancy rims checked for trueness? How about spindles/arms /suspension?

The wheels have not been checked I have no clue as to where to take them for something like that. The vibration begins at about 45 and decreases slightly as I speed up. The vibration is only felt at the wheel, the steering wheel shakes back and forth. If the roads are very smooth sometimes there is no vibration at all

The hub centric rings will play a big factor. Just to give you a little perspective, I had my rims installed, but the manufacturer did not send the correct hub centric rings, so in the meantime TWS installed custom rings on my car.

There was vibration at 70-80mph and very slight in lower mph. Not enough where the steering wheel was significantly vibrating, but just enough for me to notice. When the hubcentric rings from the manufacturer were installed this past weekend all the vibration was gone.

Hope that helps. From your posts, it's my understanding that you don't have those yet, but when you do get them and have them installed, it should take away that vibration.

I had always assumed that the wheels where pretty much centered form the lug bolts, but I guess not. I hope that does the trick. Where yours plastic or metal?

Not sure if they were plastic or metal. I didn't get to see them when I took my car back to have them installed. The only thing that was certain was that they were specifically made by the wheel manufacturer (OZ), so they were specifically made for my rims. I'm assuming they were metal.

I know the ones they sent me the first time that are loose are plastic. They are sending me a new set that is suppose to be the right size but I was surfing online and I found some aluminum ones that fit my specs and they are not all that much, but I hate to just waste money.

Mercedes does not permit wheel spacers, citing lack of hub concentricity as one of the reasons. The other is alignment problems from the wheel being spaced out from the hub.

I have found that a good off-road four wheel drive shop is good for alignment and vibrations.

I plan on taking the car in for an alignment as soon as I get the correct hub centric rings. Is it worth the money to get aluminum rings over the plastic type material?

Post up the link for the ones you found. I've seen some with outer diameter (OD) of 72.62mm and 73mm, but not sure which would fit our cars. I'm having some spacers installed on Friday with my new wheels and am hoping for no vibration issues. If I'm understanding correctly, these rings work together with spacers on the front wheels to ensure that there is no vibration, even if the spacers themselves are "hubcentric"?

Here's one I found. It shows two different specs for "Mercedes" but both are fairly close.

here is a more thorough explanation with pics of hub centric rings.
http://www.justforwheels.com/index.j...entric&sub=how

But my question is about OEM wheels. I have rebalanced the wheels many times and it continues to vibrate at the steering wheel slightly. Do OEM wheels have the hub rings as well or is this strictly aftermarket? if yes, is it possible the rings need replacing (are they wear and tear item?)?

I'm pretty much at the point where I will take the wheel off and check for myself. Thanks for any help.

A box on 4 wheels
One of my tires had a slight bump on them, and it caused quite a vibration at 50+ MPH. It could be the tires.. its not that visible you have to see it while its being balanced.

i have a problem long time ago when i was driving a honda. I bought a 16 inches wheels. it's vibrate when i drive 80km/h. sometime it will stop after 100km/h.
i took it for wheel balance 4 times and it still happen.
I finally went to a shop to do a 'on vehicle wheel balance'. The guy do a wheel balance with the car on. It has no problem after it.
But I am not sure where still can do it, try a big tyre shop.

Good luck

Kevin

There's different types of balancing equipment, forgot the name of it, yet there's one that balances the tire under load and works much better.

What type of tires are you using on your 19s? (assuming form the pics?) I have a slight wheel vibration after startup, yet its cause the 19s 'flat spot' a bit when parked overnight. A bit of driving to warm them up and all is well.

Also switching from 45 series tires to 35/30 tires you'll notice more road surface through the steering wheel, no road is perfectly flat.

I have the oem 7-spoke rims. There is a small dent on the outside of one of the rims in the front (I hit a curb while parking). Tires are brand new. I guess the only way to find out is to get new wheels.

just curious, when I brake, I really start feeling the vibrations. It feels like the right front wheel brakes before the left front wheel. any idea if this is connected with the vibrations??

btw, tried your idea nov0798. found a place that used it (most in my area do) and well, $40 later still there. Some how I feel like I got scammed twice by the mechanics for getting rid of the vibrations. Hopefully it is not there once i get new rims, but just curious if my brakes/rotors, something other than wheels/tires could be causing the vibrations.

I had the endlinks in the front replaced under warranty on my car. How you just described the vibration is similar to what I had.

When you go over a little bump, does it feel like the car keeps shaking rather than it being just 1 bump? If so, I bet somethings loose or worn in the front end.

axles are fine.

could this be an indication of worn out sway bars? Over small bumps at low speed (5-10 mph), there is a clunk sound that can be heard/felt through the steering wheel.
