W203 Toolkit

W203 Toolkit
I bought a used W203 C200K sedan ( Year 2001 ) recently and noticed that the car does not come with the usual MB cloth toolbag. In fact, there are hardly any tools; apart from the spare tyre & jack, the only tools in the wheel well tray are a lugnut wrench, a towing eye bolt, a wheel centering bolt, a wheel chock and a set of spare lugnuts. There are no pliers, wrenches or even a screwdriver.
Can someone confirm if these are the only tools that come with the car, or am I missing anything? Thanks.

There's a toolkit? Did the owners manual say there was a toolkit? I know my 2002 came with an air compressor, I thought that was cool. In the U.S. we don't need tool kits. We call a toll free number and they come to us with tools in hand.

My 2005 C230 only has those you mentioned. Packed extremely well, I think they'd survive the 6g crash.
- wheel chock
- guide for 17" mini-spare wheel
- spare shorter lug bolts
- tow eye
- nice monopod jack
- gloves
- fuses
I think the days of the full kit have disappeared, as part of the customer service 'anytime' repair/pickup service.

I'm really upset that they didn't include a screw driver in the toolkit. I was looking for one for a good five minutes!
Stupid Mercedes, can't even afford to put in a screwdriver anymore.

The air compressor is for the cars with spare tires that are not inflated. My SLK had it, my Coupe has it as well. It's a small box that plugs into the cig. lighter port and has a hose to hook up to the tire.

Thanks, all. I had a good look around the wheel well again, and nope, no gloves or fuses, probably 'misplaced' by the last owner! I think my car does not come with an air-compressor since there is a full-sized spare.

Did a bit more research, popped into the dealer's parts department, chatted with one of the service managers and guess what I found out? The early W203's actually did come with a blue cloth toolkit roll, similar to that with the W202's. The later W203's did away with this, part of the general cheapening of materials & cost reductions, I guess. For those who may be interested, the part no. is a2035800003 and contains the following :
1. a0005810317 - Reversible screwdriver
2. a1205810246 - Lugnut wrench
3. a0005810654 - Fuse Pliers
4. a1295810038 - Channel-lock pliers
5. a1264030074 - Wheel centering pin
6. a1405890101 - Open-end wrench 8/10
7. a1405890001 - Open-end wrench 13/17
And the cloth tie-up bag, of course. I assume that the previous owner 'retained' this toolbag, and left me with only the lugnut wrench & wheel pin. I am now looking around ebay to try to get a replacement set on the cheap!

Mind didn't come with that, it came with this pathetic space saver spare tyre that requires 60 PSI inflation. My pressure check pen doesn't even go to 60 PSI.

stupid me
stupid me never checked till today.
I bought my '02 coupe used, in August 04. I never checked for the tools. I just checked today and found out that the car has none. I have just the spare and a clear plastic sheet. I guess the previous owner lost them and the dealership never checked. D'oh. I'll have to get some.
I know we can call roadside assistance, that isn't free. right?

'06 C55 came with the toolkit. It's in the lefthand well in the trunk. Don't know if the retainer is in other W203s and you can just add the kit.

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
For a couple of hundred bucks, you can buy a German made Heyco tool kit that puts those supplied with the car to shame. Most come in a fitted case, and while a bit crude by Snap-On standards, they are nicely finished, and do fit well. Recent Mercedes-Benz cars use so many fasteners that are not hex, slotted or Philips, these types of kits are of little use.
I was told Roadside is free if the problem was covered by warranty.

Wow. That much? Yeah I will complain. You make a good point. All cars should come with tools. What if I had gotten a flat?

Oh I'd just complain, seriously, I get very nasty when I know I'm right. I even start raising my voice (politely but sternly) and creating a scene. It's very effective and completely the right of the customer to do so.

I had to buy a second hand kit. Jack, tow hook and brace. The brace is too large to fit in the lug whole, so I will just take my + wheel brace as I would hate to be stuck in the back of beyond and unable to change a flat.

Wow. 12 year old thread brought back to life. 245K miles, I don't
go anywhere without a tool kit.
