Turn off one-touch window control?

No flames, please, but my wife does smoke a cigarette in the car (2002 C320 Sport Wagon) from time to time. In an effort to keep the residual smell down, I insist she open the passenger window about an inch. This lets the smoke out and she can flick the ashes out, too.

However, the one-touch system makes it difficult for her to open it ONLY an inch and she ends up flicking it up and down and, generally, pissing me off. Can the on-touch feature be defeated, if possible only on this window?

on the window switches there's actually two positions you can switch it to. don't pull so hard and you'll see what i mean. the first intermediate position is manual mode, it opens only while you hold it. the second (fully pulled or pushed) position is auto-open/close.

read the manual for more info.

Thanks. I guess I should have asked for something else: How to slow it down. Using this control, the window still jumps to a greater or lesser opening than desireable.

Have quick fingers.

Well, if that's not a good enough reply, try asking your dealer if they can do anything about it. Hopefully there's a tiny dial hidden away somewhere that can adjust the speed for you.

mine works fine so long as i use the manual control. i agree using the auto control is hard to get it where you want it, but that's why the manual control is there.

1. I will try it myself and see whether the manual control is controllable. So far, I have only my wife's fumblings to go by.

2. When in goes in for a service, I'll ask if there's an adjustment but, since we've just passed 1Kmiles, that's not soon.

Thanks for making me think about it more clearly.

Window Opening

Kal: Good thing you are not driving in CA-if the cops spotted your wife "flicking" you would be out a minimum of $200. In direct re' your question, she can probably hit about an inch down with only a brief tug on the first detent. However, the window drive is pretty quick-so some practice is probably required. Good Luck!

Mebbe we should hit CA! After all, the NYC price of $7.50/pack isn't stopping her. Perhaps a $200 fine might help. I know that a recent one slowed me down for a while.

No problems so far but it's only just been unwrapped and I haven't pushed it much. I am also getting used to RWD again having had 3 Saabs between this and previous MB. The differences are substantial but some of that is my own timidity at this point.

The only negative is a great deal of wiggling on steel-grid bridge surfaces, much more than I've experienced with other cars.

Another approach is to pull the battery cable, wait a few minutes and then NOT reset the auto-up/down feature on the drivers window (only). See the manual for clues.

Thumbs up Ionizer for Smokers

I am not trying to flame any smoker, so I will offer a small piece of advice. I quit smoking my wife did not. That was fine with me but boy did I notice the cars after she was done driving them. I bought an Ionizer from QVC that plugs into the cigarette lighter and in 2-3 hours nothing, nadda, and no smoke smell at all. You got to try it if your do not want residual smoke in the car. here is the link http://www.qvc.com and do a search on "H70177" (Item Number H70177 RoadPro Portable Air Purifier/Ionizer)

Looks like it works the same as the sharper image ones that are self standing in rooms. Those things rule! My buddy has a car ( Max a.k.a. El Gato) who sheds all over the place and i am allergice to long haired cats or something but ever since he got those things, i have been great @ his place.

Good Thread

Congrats guys! Kal asked a question which would ordinarily draw out the flamers. In this case he received some helpful and reasonable replys--this is the way the forum threads should run!
