LCD mount Location Advise?

Where would you put a 5 inch LCD screen in a Coupe ... keep in mind that there is a factory head unit and same dash.

Its going to be used in conjunction with a Espresso micro PC to run MP3/ Video / Navigation.

any pics or examples are appreciated also

its 499 and its pretty fast for a micro pc.

I can get a 5 inch LCD from ebay for 80 bones ... then hook that up and then fm modulate audio from it.

If I run linux I can use this free GPS nav software so I have a command style setup... AND play MP3's and downloaded movies

That little handheld thing has like a 10 gig drive.

Well, if you want to keep all the stock components and just "add" this item, I don't think it'll affect any of the stock parts, including the steering wheel controls.

What I'd recommend trying is taking advantage of that smaller space underneath the stock HU and placing the screen in there. Hopefully it'll be a retractable screen so it won't be difficult to get access to the HU when you need it! That's the arrangement I was planning to get if I ever was going to add a LCD to my setup.

BTW, that's a great piece of equipment for the "laptop", I was actually thinking of getting a full-size laptop in the car!

I found a 5 inch screen ... just a screen with RCA's I am going to then build a track for it and a hinge that it can be flipped up in ... and store it in the space under the stock HU

If you want simple why not look at this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...373430448&rd=1

Its a pretty good price. I may get one but the only thing is I would put the LCD on top and the aftermarket HU I got underneath so its not blocked.

It says its a normal DIN size, so if you were to leave the stock deck it wouldn't fit, but if you have an aftermarket deck, probably bought a metra dash kit, which runs for about $30 and it will fit in there. The only problem as I said before is blocking the Head Unit so you may want to switch the LCD and the Head Unit.

Oh crap... well the one I got is only a 5 inch screen... and I am trying to rig something up similar to that one on ebay. I just have to build a housing with a track and then have a rotating hinge on the display.

They actually make fold away docking stations for automobiles, so why not install on in the glovebox or under the passenger seat and hookup your laptop to your car. If you want you can buy a USB touchpad and install it near the centre console, and if you have a LCD HU then hook the laptop into that too.

So get into your car, plug your laptop into the docking station in the glove box, and view it on the HU LCD panel while controlling it via the centre console mounted touchpad... that's be a killer setup... check out www.audionutz.com they did something similar to a Civic.

I have a laptop presently ... and I hate carrying that brick around.. I would rather just use this espresso PC and create my own Linux read-only filesystem so I can shut it on and off and then just update it once in a while. No big deal. Also ... I have a changer in my glove box... and a laptop would be to big for it anyways.
