reverse TICKING noise
hey guys, i found this issue that i saw on B**world.
"Has anyone else ran into this problem. The specs are 2006 C230 auto. When in reverse and under 5 miles per hour, when you are tapping on the breaks frequently, it makes a sound as if metal is hitting metal. MB knows about this issue, but say it is normal use.
Does anyone know anything about this. Thanks in advance! "
and I have the same problem, its this loud metal "ticking" noise, I have no idea whats wrong. I the brakes apart, added brake paste, reinstalled the brakes and cleaned the rotors, whats going on!??

This is a normal brake sound. I have this "problem" on my benz and also in all the other car. It depends on weather, sunny and wet day and many other things.

So is this sound really "normal"? I just noticed my 07 doing this when backing in the garage. What is making the noise? Should I take it to the dealer anyway and see what they say?

It happens when I wash the car and back it into the garage. Dealer told me its normal. Since your under warranty, Id bring it in and have them look.

I will probably make an appointment for the dealer next month and see what they say, but sounds like this is a "normal" problem, as there are quite a few others that have this problem.
I may also take the wheels off and the rear and see exactly how everything is setup. I know the rear calipers are floating, so I wonder if they are moving a little and hitting something.

I hear a noise from my front driver side, but it's because the tire touching the inner plastic cover. How do I know it's the rims? Cuz I had a spare tire when I was painting the rims, and it didn't make the noise.

well, I have the stock brake setup and 17 inch wheels, this only happens on REVERSE and after the car is out for a crazy heavy throttle drive.

Unfortunately no. Unlike your situation where you're going under 5mph, the clicking noise on my wheel increases with the increase in speed. I read on the forums it could be possibily be the length of the lug-nut and how it could be hitting something.

they're Mandrus Regenmeisters, 18x8.5 up front with a 32 offset and 18x9.5 in the rear with a 35 offset. Not sure about the lugs. I'm pretty sure the shop put the ones on that came with the wheels.

I think you need to add a 2mm space in the back. the lugs are probably slightly rubbing against your brake assembly.
