DIY: VENT REMOVAL (ZAMFR01 did you a favor)

ZAMFR01 Did you a favor, since I had to fix my stupid antenna today, took some pics of the "vent" removal.

the vent and the controls...

simply pull the "vent" out from the top

after removal of the cover

T20 Torx screw to take the screw out

then the otherside

take a flathead to sorta "ply" the vent out from the tip, you will hear this kinda..click sound

and the otherside...

then the vent can be easily removed

done

W203 slightly modified
It's one piece not two. When you rip it off like that it breaks a whole heap of tags.

1/ You release the inner stop bump with a flat screw driver and the vent rolls up to reveal the screw.

2/ You roll the vent down by releasing the other stop bump and then ease the whole part out

This published method is about 5 years old and totally outdated as a hack method.

hey j0hn thanks for the link. at the point where it removes the panel around the gear shift, does that also work for 2005+ models?

I honestly dont know cuz I havent got to give it a try myself. I need to rip that ish apart to find that darn clicking stepper motor, but I really doubt that the structure of how all those panels are held on have changed much. On the other threads ive seen about doing this, I havent seen anyone say anything about the process differing from year to year of the vehicle.

it *should* work.

If not, you have got the hardest part completeded already (removing the vents).

Good luck, hope this helps.

Haha, the brute force way to get it off. I seen this method before on HGTV where they use crow bars to remove old kitchen cabinets...

GUYS - do it this way. Please. You have to simultaneously remove the vent while easing down these "tabs".

I broke the tabs on the vent piece in the second picture, can some one please tell me what is the name of that piece and where can I get it....now the fitment is all skewed.......I used the safer method but still those tabs broke, theye are way too delicate in my openion and break very easily.....some one please help me on how and where can I buy this trim piece......or atleast what it is called; I can look up junk yards but still need to know what is the whole vent assembly called so I can do a fruitful search.....any help is appreciated....
